The England Cricket Thread

Should be a good last day, but depending on when India bowl us out, there is a potentially achievable target to chase.

Quite surprised that Bess was dropped for Ali. He's dispatched Kohli (which is no mean feat) with an absolute beauty, but really he's a reasonably good all rounder and nothing more for me.

Think that first win gives them the option to tinker the squad a bit more and play around with one eye on Australia at the end of the year. Rotation is going to be key with such a busy year both for physical and mental fitness. For Ali I think part of that is seeing if he has recovered over the last year and back to his best or if he's a bit of a lost cause.

So we got the review returned to us.

Kohli's dismissal was also 'interesting'...the guy refused to walk even after having been told he was out by the umpire, then would only leave the field once he'd seen it on the screen.

What I want to know is why didn't India lose a review as a result? Kohli insisted on viewing the screen before leaving, yet wasn't deducted a review. India effectively received a free extra review.

Looks like the pitch is all over the show, hopefully one more wicket this evening!

Kohli thinks he walks on water, but if they're not punishing then everyone will keep trying it.

Yep, doesn't matter what happens now. Difference between the two teams will just be rohits innings now. Gonna be done and dusted very quickly.

Such a shame that Rashid won't / can't play test cricket. I think he'd cause huge problems on this pitch. Our current crop are good spinners but just not exceptional, like Rashid is.

And moeen to leave for final 2 tests too. So bess back in. Don't think we'll see him again in the test side. Shame as when he's on form some of those balls he bowls are ridiculous.

Can't help but think that test cricket is following an inevitable path toward extinction.

It might be a function of the situation to some degree, but the number of players that seem to be dropping out or rotated is far higher than you'd ever have seen last decade.

Perhaps it's a valid part of looking after players' mental health more effectively, but it might also be the players looking after their wallets more effectively.
