The England Cricket Thread

I was only just thinking about that about 15 minutes ago. I was wondering whether the new coach would create such an upset, removing Cook and putting Root in as Captain and at 3 if he's up to it. He essentially opens the batting now anyway. Unfortunately as has been the trend recently, Cook, Bell, and even Ballance are horrendously out of form and are dead weight. They need to be shown the door for the younger talent. A few recent good games doesn't absolve them of their abysmal record over the last year or so. And I really can't believe they've brought Moeen Ali back on as the preferred spin bowler. Rashid would be a way better candidate, and as he proved against New Zealand, he can more than bat as well.

Cook is currently averaging 59.70 in 2015 therefore getting rid of him would be harsh. Ballance is not as out of form as people are suggesting. Ballance has more technical issues than Root, technical issues that were not discovered at county level through a combination of lower bowling quality and less analysis of his game. He needs to be given time to work on those issues by facing high quality bowling in test matches. And with an average of 42 in 2015 he deserves time to work on it.

Bell on the other hand does not deserve any more chances. In 2015 he has scored just 199 runs in 10 innings' with 143 of those coming in his first match this year. Meaning in his last 9 innings' he has scored just 56 runs.. Dire form. And at 33 he's getting to the end of his career now, time to nudge him towards retirement.

England are also probably well prepared for Johnson this time round though. Starc and Hazlewood will be the difference makers I think.

England still have big problems opening, not sure why, so today's total is pretty good considering. And someone promote Joe Root already, what a player.

Don't see why everybody bangs on about moving players up the order after they do well? Root attempted opening, didn't do very well. He attempted batting at 3, didn't do very well. At 5 he averages almost 80 so why move him? If it ain't broken don't fix it! With Stokes, Buttler and Ali all below him he is very rarely going to run out of partners when batting at 5 so all promoting him up the order does is exposes him to the new ball more which he has struggled with in the past.
