The England Cricket Thread

It's about time someone scored a hundred for England though, that being in their 5th innings of the series.

I still think the whitewash is on the cards unless something magical happens.

Malan was outstanding; had my doubts over the summer but he's shown himself to be a real digger. Fair play.

As for a whitewash Days 4/5 here are supposed to be heavily rain affected, wouldn't be too worried.

I don't think Australia can win this. If we're still fielding by the end of the day, the result will be a draw, or a win for England.

It is an incredibly ability England have. I couldn't sleep so ended up watching most of the first session and couldn't for the life of me understand all the talk of scores of 500+ at the start of the day. It was always going to be a case of lose 1 wicket and we'll be all out for not much more. Moeen's either excellent or terrible and unfortunately he's terrible right now and the bowlers keep getting blown away. At the start of the day I honestly wouldn't have been surprised had we been bowled out for under 400 but when we managed to get to 360-370 for 4 even I started to think maybe 500 was possible but no, 6 wickets for 30 odd runs later and it's all over.

Australia will now go on to score 470 and we'll be all out for 250 and they'll win by 9 wickets.

I love your optimism!

Be fair, my pessimism is hardly misplaced. The first 2 tests have gone the exact same way this one has so far - first day of the first test we get into a promising position and people are talking about 400+ but we lose 6 wickets for 50 odd runs, we then get them a few wickets down and think we have a chance of taking a first innings lead but let them off and then fold in the 2nd innings. The 2nd test was the same but the innings reversed - we get them 200 odd for 5 but we let them off the hook and they score 450, complete failure in our first innings and then after getting into a promising position in the second innings we go and lose 7 wickets for 60 odd runs.

We can't string together more than a couple of decent sessions and every time we get in a decent position we blow it very quickly.

What! England collapsed again? They're giving it away so cheaply at the end. How important will those runs have been if they continued to bat "normally".

Australia are likely to match England's 1st innings score, especially with 4 wickets down.
