I thought the general consensus by everyone was it's better if they didn't get here in the first place ;)

It is. There are legal means to enter the country and they should be used. I'd still be for deporting people who rocked up in the channel to try to gain entry. They should be using the legal option open to them.

As a generalised statement I find that hard to believe

Oh well ho hum

But I keep hearing that if we had an Australian system, immigration would go up?

I can see how it would be quite difficult to tailor the point system to such a way to only get the numbers we wanted, as we have no idea how many people out there would pass any set criteria.

I'm not just criticising it for the sake of it, I'm generally confused over this issue by the opposing information as usual

You hear that because people say it happened to Australia, and as people keep pointing out, yes because they need skilled labour. It could happen here if there is a need. However where there isn't a need we should be able to restrict(control ;) ) the flow.

I'm kinda split, not really sure which way to vote but as soon as remain voters start throwing around racism accusations at leave voters it pushes me towards the leave camp out of anger. Really wish they would stop doing this.

Yeah we're all racist scumbags apparently. :(

I don't at all think all Leave voters are racist but you can't deny that there are seemingly far more racists on that side.

The immigration debate from the Leave debate has often (IMO) slipped into racism.

Apart from all the anti semites on the remain said in the labour party, lets not forget about them.

Yes, but it's a cheap shot from the remain camp, branding people who are concerned about immigration in any way as 'racist' and I really think it's done more harm than good, because a lot of people will vote remain, but won't publically admit it.
A bit like being a Conservative voter. :p

Perspective really - it is a cheap shot because it's obviously not true. But the leave campaign (well, Farage :p) hasn't done itself any favours!

I don't know any leavers who want to stop all immigration. Everyone wants us to be able to control it better, that's all.

Points based systems should be fluid so they can be modified to get the numbers and skills needed, Australia currently has theirs set in a way that has increased immigration because that's exactly what they wanted to do.

I really don't see how anyone can think having more control over something to enable us to cater it to our needs is somehow worse.

Generally I think the racism card is being throw around by the remain side when things don't seem to be going their way - its like a nice fallback position. There aren't many posts I've seen that have openly been racist in nature.

Its that age old conundrum of openly being/feeling patriotic to the UK being slightly racist in other peoples eyes

No it hasn't but the Remain side has clearly decided to start using the racism card a lot more in the last few days. It's pathetic.

Can someone explain how a EU tax identification number is a bad thing? Surely that just makes it easier to move around and pay appropriate taxes in the country you're currently working in  (Gisela said this as if it was the most awful thing ever that we should have vetoed)

Because it's a step along the way to paying tax directly to the EU and bypassing national governments.

It's not a bad thing at all, it just allows leavers like Scorza to scaremonger with their project fear.

Personally not to bothered who wins as I cant see much changing either way to be honest - I register my vote and if the vote ends up 51-49 of something close then whoever wins needs to tip toe a bit - if any gloating starts from either after then the real lesson hasn't been learnt that the country is probably split down the middle on this one

Stuff like this doesn't help the leave camp disassociate itself from racists, but I see more paranoia about being called racist than actual accusations.

One of Vote Leave’s biggest single donors is a former member of the British National Party

Bottom line is that it doesn't help the Remain campaign to accuse people of being racist. If someone is a racist then they'll vote leave whatever, whereas accusing a normal non-racist leave voter of being one is just going to **** them off and make it less likely they'll listen to you.
