To be honest, the EU could still end up dissolving whether we leave or not, considering the outcry with other countries wanting their own referendum now. Sweden Switzerland deciding to not join after being in the process for the past 20 years signifies how things are going with the EU as a whole.

Switzerland hasn't really recently decided not to join, they've not been part of the accession process for years as far as the EU is concerned. I'm not sure it tells you much about anything. If you look at the data on the EU's popularity among member states you see that it's always been more positive than negative and after a bit of a dip after the crash and the Eurozone crisis it's currently recovering back to former levels. I think the idea that the rest of Europe is chomping at the bit wanting to break up is wishful thinking from Euroskeptics.

Why do you focus on the last 18 months in Spain, and not look at a longer time period? A time period longer than 18 months would be more representative. You are not being selective, are you?

Because I was responding to the claim "it's not getting better", for that the relevant data is the recent stuff. And, yes, I agree it's not recovered to pre-crash levels but it is on the mend.

Would love to know how they arrived at that conclusion.

Alan Johnson was heard saying that postal votes were "shocking for remain" a week or so ago. Not sure how they come to this conclusion either, something to do with the double envelope system or their own polling I guess

They recently withdrew their application to join the EU.

The majority of that is from countries that gain the most from being in the EU due to receiving more than they put in. Where as there is a large amount of growing resent for the EU in founding countries that contribute the most. Especially France and Spain. And if these countries left, or even Britain, then the EU would start to dissolve as funding dries up.

They recently withdrew their application to join the EU.

What does that actually mean to you? The application was dead long ago - it would be like me ordering an item with incorrect card details, then phoning up 10 years later to "officially cancel my order" in some faux triumph.

It's likely gesture politics as a part of their spat with the EU about free movement (which they did recently vote to stop - except they still want everything else, and for swiss to be able to live and work in the EU).

It is bad timing for the UK remain campaign though, however irrelevant it is in reality.

How is that going for the Swiss at the moment? I assume there will be some sort of sanctions at some point?

Lots of pensioners are using postal votes. That might explain it.

So turns out the people asking the questions from the audience at the debate last night weren't quite as they made out...

The 'working class' lad who couldn't find a job actually has a law degree and works as a paralegal
The 'small business owner' whose life is being made difficult by EU rules has a property management/letting agent business
The 'black British woman' was Miranda Grell, a former Labor Party Councillor.

Hands up, anyone shocked? :p

Do you even read the links you post? Even Breitbart managed to point out what I said was true: "But others have argued that it was a pointless discussion as the EU no longer considers Switzerland a candidate country".

Nevertheless, formally withdrawing their application sends a clear message. Don't pretend that it isn't important

Very well it seems judging by the Swiss economy.

Shocker as both sides use dirty tactics to win votes.

More at 10.
