Up till the 70s we were paid a fair wage for our productivity, after the 70s our productivity increase but wages failed to keep up.
You labour power and value have hit all time low.

Stackers would work during the night and evening weekends for double pay which wasjust over 9.
These days there is no double pay.

Now that is true. I got time and half if I started before 7pm.
I got time and half for over time in the week. Double on nights.

Saturday was time and half till 12pm then double time after that.
Double time on a Sunday till 12pm. Then quad time after.

This is from an in campaigner!

I am reminded of the aphorism about "with friends like these..." but it's the unfortunate problem with a referendum like this one: one finds oneself on the same side of the argument as people you generally don't agree with. I can't say I give any more credibility to Stuart Rose than I usually would just because we happen to agree on one thing, and in this case he's wrong on both counts.

That's nothing to do with the EU though, that's due to changing consumer habits and the fact that more stores are open 24 hours most days.

It was an agreement by stores or any other company if they wanted late night workers they would need to pay for unsociable hours, eu directive changed that by suggesting the only over time could be paid time extra. On top of that the market started to open up too eu nationals then the 2001 & 2004 explosion of free labour killed double pay off.

Nothing to do with a labour pool so vast you don't have to pay more because you can almost guarantee someone will do the same for less?

my local Tesco is 24 hours, nights and evenings is 75%+ indonesian/asian workers, im guessing thats due to cheap labour

So your source is the comment section of an article?

How come i received 1.5 x pay for Sundays and bank holidays, triple pay for major holidays and unsociable hours work premiums in Tesco?

I know for a fact that these rates are still there because i kept in touch with the mates I met there.
