The Evil Within 2 (Friday 13th October 2017!!!)

I just bought it for £4.40 with some DLC on kinguin
That's a great deal - the DLC is really good too. The first one makes the whole story much easier to understand and in the second one you get to play as the giant box head enemy in first person smashing people heads with his giant spiked hammer - really good fun. Awesome game all in all.

ah lol i actually only got the pre-order bonus pack which is a shotgun, medkits and a coupla other things. Will have to check out the DLC (only a few quid each) if i dont **** my pants too much - i'm one of those people that gets properly into games (and films) and forget i'm actually just playing something. VR is like my dream finally coming true

Installing now

Oh fail I cant get it to work, sends my tv out of range. Tried booting in 4k first then 1080p and both times sent it out of range ('invalid format' on my LG)

edit* turns out the game boots in 2.35:1 aspect ration which means my TV (LG OLED) cant show it ¬¬

anyone know any launch options? i'm asking on their forums

Can't help you with your TV however it worth noting that for AMD cards, all drivers past 16.11.5 broke The Evil Within - completely unplayable frame rates of under 10 FPS - the drivers before that are all good though. Also there is a Flawless Widescreen fix that removes the horizontal letterboxing in the game.

nvidya anyway.

its the stupid drivers for LG OLEDs not letting me do anything apart from 4k or 1080p at 60hz & others at 30fps but no odd ones

I like the TV but I wish the driver allowed other resolutions, it is pretty sucky in that regard. I've tried EDIDs and custom resolutions and nothing seems to work right

It might be Shinji Mikami's game but for me The Evil Within 1 is weird in term of the story. Its bizarre combination of cheese and amazing artistic weirdness. I am not sure if i would get this one and have too see some of more details about it. BTW, i have finished the game on PS3.

The story is a bit weird and hard to follow but for me that just added to the atmosphere and the general feeling of WTF throughout the game. Also if you've ever watched an Asian horror film (not the American remakes) the story plots do tend to jump around rather than follow a simple sequential order and keeps you guessing as to what exactly is going on. This all then leads up to a big impact at the end when it does reveal the full story. The Evil Within follows this kind of format and is something us Westerns aren't used to with our mainly mainstream American and British made movies - I also think this is the main reason it isn't as highly regarded as it deserves to be. Anyway - after playing the first 2 DLCs (The Assignment & The Consequence) the story is fully fleshed out and revealed. These two DLCs are also really, really good - a shift in gameplay to more stealthy tactics which isn't normally my thing but it's really well done. My message to anyone who has played or stopped playing it is to put the story to one side and enjoy the game - all will be revealed in good time...

Looking forward to this but I did have to really force myself to play the first one as it started a bit crappy for my liking. The game seemed to really find its feet after chapter 3, but upto that point it was a confusing mess of a game.

Agreed once I got into it I really enjoyed it

Yeah the gameplay in the first level in particular was not reflective of the rest of the game and I've heard of a few folk who gave up based on that first level - shame as it is cracking game.

They also used the first chapter as the demo, which made me not buy the game for years as I thought the whole game was going to be a mix of stealth and scripted chases.

That was definitely a mistake they made. I suppose at the time of release Resident Evil 6 was getting slated and games like Outlast were enjoying success - a bit naughty really given the game is nothing like Outlast after the first level. I also think they and people generally underestimated the popularity of the later Resident Evil action/horror type games, it's just that the hardcore original RE fans were very vocal in the distain for the path the franchise went down.
