The Evil Within

I simply can't believe how many people are defending the game on Steam, or berating negative reviews because the reviewers haven't finished the game yet.

You don't need to finish eating a plate of bad food to know it's good. If a game can't grip you within 2 hours of gameplay, it's not a good game. :/

The Evil Within. 2560x1080 @ 21:9 ultra wide aspect ratio. This is how you do not publish a PC game in 21:9 with forced 2.35.1 letterboxes & pillarboxes  Bethesda/Tango Gameworks time you spoke to the developers behind Wolfenstein The New Order. Same game engine, same publisher & native 21:9 support  Its also as demanding as Crysis 3 & makes my GTX 780 Ti go to 80% GPU loading yet the gfx are nothing more than basic & dated. Game has horrible optimisation right now & is virtually unplayable due to camera/controls/laggy gameplay affecting everything :(

Right, just cleared chapter 3 and the game is getting far better now. I put the borders back on and 30fps lock as it seems far smoother with both of those settings on, especially using gsync. There seems to be a stutter that looks like an extra duplicate frame being made on panning if you enable 60fps, so its definitely not a true 60fps setting! Gsync allows stuff like that to be detected very easily thankfully so don't bother with the 60fps console command.

The game is very hard on survival difficulty. The limited ammo and utterly daft ability for the chainsaw guys to follow you into any room, without even seeing you enter the building, let alone the room, is amazingly frustrating. Seem to have unlocked around half of the entire unlocks available to me already too, so I bloody hope it opens out more or its going to be a very short game!

If anyone is considering buying this, get alien isolation instead of you want survival horror. I'm a massive fan of the resident evil games but this isn't scary at all. None of the enemies have actually raised my heart rate and the combat is worse than alien isolation, which uses it as a last resort!

It's an average action game, just like resident evil 6. It's not scary at all sadly.

See, it's the opposite for me. Alien hasn't managed to scare me once, where there's been quite a few jump scares in this one. I wouldn't say it's scary as such, but I'm enjoying it more than Alien. The setting it is in is brilliant. It's nothing like RE6! I'd say it's more like RE4, with a bit of The Last of Us thrown in.

OK, so horrible PC port aside, this is a fantastic game.

Agree. use the config to sort the black bars (i see theres a fix for widescreen users now also).

Game got me hooked so far. 60 fps for a game like this is fine for me on 144hz and the game does look good to me. Lots of atmosphere.
Just a bit into chapter 3 now. Keeps getting better.

According to the controls/camera.. This is Resident Evil ffs. Wouldnt be RE without it being clumsy sometime :D

Why why why does it take the PC community to fix our games. Fixes that the flipping developer should be doing themselves. I'm getting tired of having to add on 2 or 3 weeks to the release date of a game so I can actually play the game smoothly or play it how it should be thanks to the PC community. How is it an office of devs can't do something that one gamer can fix within days or hours after release. What the **** do they do all day sat at their desks?

It seems to be a frequent occurrence and I'm getting tired of it.

Just the state of gaming in general tbh. Dice cant fix a game EA cant release a proper game etc etc. We seem to have gone backwards instead of forward.

It's weird how the community is so polarised over this game. I really want to like it but there's some serious stuff that needs ironing out before, in my opinion, it's actually a good title. Suppose I just had very high hopes :(

I agree. It's one reason why I've erred towards playing my PS4 a lot more than my PC as of late.

It's wasteful to spend so much money on a high-end PC, only to have to spend ages trying to optomise a game so it runs properly. I appreciate that there's always going to be driver issues and hardware conflicts but some games (BF4 for example) are seemingly released broken.

21:9 temp fix works for now but laggy gameplay is causing control/camera/gameplay issues & Bethesda will not even acknowledge the issues either

Not going to Lie,I was disappointed with this game not being supported the way i hoped it would be,But i'm on chapter 12 right now.

Boy it's a very scary game right now,Feels a lot different to the first 6 chapters.

Boss battles are very intense and i love the "Crafting system" When you disarm traps and chests how you get parts to make new bolts for the crossbow.

Absolutely brilliant so far,I'd love to see a patch hit soon though to fix peoples problems,And not in a months time.

Because i'm using the input commands to unlock FPS and change the aspect ratio is that why i'm not unlocking any achievements?

All in all anyone thinking about getting the game,Wait for some future patches,I paid £24 for the limited edition of the game and got the season pass free with my loyal card points.

I don't regret a single penny but i'm just shocked that we have to put up with the 30FPS nonsense just because "Next gen" consoles do shouldn't mean we have to suffer.
