The Evil Within

Apart from the people who are upset about the obvious issues with the game, which supposedly has been patched. The only 'problem' i see people reported time and time again seems to be along the lines of lack of ammo or health, which i see as a positive in a game like this.

I wrote about this earlier in the thread in more detail, but I'll summarise. For the first 3 chapters there is very little ammo or health; it's an unforgiving game.

Then from chapter 4-7 the amount of available ammo/health improves drastically. Strange one. It may have been slow to sell, but I don't really know why they have felt the need to slash the prices this much.

So I bought this in the sale and am having constant "Not responding issues". The game is so broken for me I can't play it. I am on chapter 2 chasing that patient and it is just crashing over and over again. Anyone else had problems?

I have an i7 950 @ 3.6
12GB Ram
MSI 970

Disable all AA both ingame menu & Nvidia Control Panel. Then its very stable.

Started playing this yesterday. Performance is reasonable: I basically get 60fps indoors and anywhere between 40-50 (depending on various effects) in outdoor environments. I am using the in-game SMAA, too, as it only appears to have a 2-3fps impact on my system and I haven't noticed any stuttering or instability with it enabled. It's a pretty shoddy implementation of AA, mind you, because there's still some noticeable aliasing in certain scenes, but it does make the IQ a little better at least.

Game seems decent so far, though I'm only part-way through the second chapter. Movement controls seem off to me, especially when stealthing.

Though I finished the game which after a few of the hard bosses throughout the game the final one was an absolute breeze. But what really spoilt this game was movement and his reaction time which was oh so slow.

Overall I enjoyed it but not much replay value which isn't good.

I was unaware that there was a season pass and now I know I will wait till I can get it for pennies.

I was going to ask for a refund from Valve as this game is pretty much unplayable. I have 2 hrs of game clocked and I would say it is maybe an hour really as the constant crashes are putting me back. Did a good 30 mins or more yesterday only for it to crash yet again. I have disabled blur, all the AA and everything else people have suggested elsewhere and the game still crashes randomly. Just about given up on it now as replaying games that require stealth lose appeal very quickly when you are forced to replay sections time and time again.

Phew, just finished this on Survival difficulty (all the way through). Quite happy with that! I've basically just played 6 chapters (10 to 15) over the past 4 evenings just to get it done. It became a bit of a grind in the end unfortunately

Utterly bonkers game and storyline. Nice sense of achievement to finish it though :D

Stats were:

Total Clear Time - 16 hours 39 minutes
Total Number of Deaths - 87 (haha)

Steam says I've played the game for 22 hours. So I spent around 6 hours retrying parts that I died on :/

This game was completely unplayable with my old drivers on my 570gtz but with a few updates became much better. Was still stuttering a tad on 1440p but after completing the game I have thoroughly enjoyed it but won't be doing another play through. I started off on highest difficulty but dropped it as a few crashes meant going stealthy became tiresome. On a lower difficulty it is quite fun as a survival as I found the ammo just about right. I still died 62 times over 11 hours but a few of those were moments I was still trying to figure out what to do.

Overall the game was satisfying despite a few crashes and poor optimisations. The story was pretty decent and action was good in parts but it was more gore than scary. A few uh oh moments but you got used to them. I like that safe head guy, he was creepy and annoying when he came. I would have liked to of seen a few more appearances.

However, if pressed between this or dead space I will choose the latter. Still worth a pop tho
