The Evil Within

Playing through this now, only got to Chapter 3 but enjoying it so far.

Game never drops below 60 FPS for me, occasionally it seems to even go as high at 80/90.. pretty sure the game is trying to sync to my monitors refresh rate (120Hz).

Decided to go with Survival difficulty, thinking of trying to play through without doing any upgrades for the achievement 'It Is What It Is - Finish the game without upgrading any skills with green gel..'.

Is it considered insane to attempt this on your first go? :p

Yes you will never make it either ;) play easiest mode first then when you know the layout of each chapter & enjoy the game more easy is hard anyway due to lack of ammo/health in many places.

Survival mode first will kill your will to play this game its insanely hard only the japanese can make it so tough makes Dark Souls look like Pacman difficulty wise ;)

Thanks for that, i've come to my senses about the no upgrades, though i'll stick to Survival mode.

I fancy a challenge. ;)

It's certainly not an easy game but with patience it's not too difficult on Survival. I found Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to be a harder game than this :p.
Just make sure to (tips)...
Use your sprint conservatively, read the loading screen tips (there's some good ones), use the environment, use your bow, and know that you often have the option to just run (in a few cases it's the only option)

I feel like Survival difficulty is how the game was designed to be played, so definitely stick with it.

Okay, so I just got a shiny new Limited Edition copy from Game for Christmas but I can't even install it! I get a "No Language Configured" setup error... I've had a quick look on the web but I can't find anything obvious? Have I just got a duff copy

Haha, thanks mate! I won't be doing any gaming today but if I don't start installing/updating now it won't be ready for when I am... I have very poor broadband you see :(

I sorted the problem out anyway, it was both my optical drives! I knew one of them was on the way out but it seems the both hate these discs. I've had to dig out a very old and very slow external USB drive.

I should have it installed by Boxing Day :D

I'm currently playing through this (up to chatper 6 I think) and I find it to be immensely frustrating at times.

It runs ok I suppose apart from the odd graphical glitch here and there.

But just the game itself is really annoying! lol. I just got up to a bit where I have to fight this chainsaw dude in a really confied area and its all slightly ridiculous. The whole point is to run and shoot I suppose - but the area is so small its stupidly tricky to get past without getting hit.

I died twice and just couldnt be bothered anymore - I'll try again tomorrow I guess.

I do like the little bits in the save area though. Reminds me of the save rooms in Resident Evil. Just a lovely safe place to relax :D

I'm enjoying this game. Been playing over the last month or two. Just finished Chapter 10. I find it stressful to play at times, the most I can usually play is for an hour or two. Luckily the game isn't too jumpy, although I am constantly panning the camera behind me expecting something to jump out at me. The graphics and atmosphere are excellent, as are the creature designs.

Definitely a worthy purchase this one.

When I complete it I'll have to consider buying Alien Isolation, thought that sounds incredibly jumpy and will probably give me a heart attack.

Just finished the game (Survival difficulty), enjoyed it very much.

Took ~15 hours with 76 deaths.

If you like Survival Horror games you can't go wrong with this, most of the bad reviews are from launch and the whole black bars, 30 FPS stuff.. which is now no longer an issue. I didn't have any graphical issues and it looked great.

My main gripe was the puzzles, they were almost non-existent and obvious.

Looking forward to the DLC.

So anyone attempting/attempted to play AKUMU?

I'm going for a no upgrade AKUMU run.. currently just finished the gauntlet at the beginning of Chapter 6, those two rooms are insane on that difficulty.

From what I've gathered so far playing AKUMU:

- Die in one hit.
- Enemies always attempt to strike you when they are on their back, making it extremely challenging to drop a match on them in the heat of battle.]
- Enemies get up much, much quicker.
- Extra enemies +
Ruvik clones
as early as chapter 2.

I can't tell if enemies take more damage or if its due to me not upgrading anything, probably a mixture of both.
