The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

Just bought the Gstar New CL Coat... http://www.ssense.com/men/product/g_star/new_cl_coat/28244

Friggin awesome, elegant and classic yet modern, looks much slimmer than in the photo in the link.

I live next to a private Gstar outlet that is corporate deal only, 50-80% off all clothing. Some very nice stuff.

That has to be ugliest model I've ever seen!

I used to be very fashion conscious... I just don't bother anymore! I'm good looking enough to make anything work :p :D

You could also go with a blue shirt with a bit of pink in it if you want. Like a blue shirt with pink check lines.

The white shirt is a staple of any guys wardrobe though if you wear suits. Just make sure that if you only have a couple that you wear regularly that you buy new ones regularly to stop them going grey or yellowing under the armpits and around the collar.

EDIT: Very tempted to add this to my collection as it goes

I had a glance at Charles Tyrwhitt the other day but their designed were rather old person.. :p I didn't try any shirts on to see about the sizing though. I wear my sleeves rolled up anyway but if I didn't to conform in my office it would have to be cufflinks...:p

Yes CT are aimed more at > 30 I think. But I'm happy to forgo the best possible design for their 4 for £100 deal. I just wear plain white or plain blue with subtle stripes most of the time anyway, quite a stiff corporate environment mine (in the day, anyway).

Interesting, I was just thinking that he was a very beautiful man, no homo.

Just picked up a Houndstooth tweed 3 pocket hacking jacket tailored at Harrods..

looks like this!

And some brown brogue boots to replace my worn out loakes

I've started to like the classic English 'chap' look so I've picked up a couple of tweed jackets and vintage suits along with Trilby hats, pocket squares etc.

What shoes/trousers can you wear with tweedy-type jackets?

Best place for Wayfarer-style sunglasses? Can't justify the cost of Ray-Bans, but I don't want a £2 pair that are going to just fall apart. sub-£20 please.

I suppose, but at this rate I wouldn't get much change from £400 for three pairs of shoes. :o They're probably all made for about 50p in Indonesia!

This is an important thing to consider with whatever you're buying, but shoes especially. We make some of the best shoes in the world in England, so 'Made in England' is something worth paying extra for with a good pair of shoes. Spend £200-£300 on a good pair and with care, there's no reason why they shouldn't last for 10 years.

Have a look at

I bought a really nice suit from Burberry recently, but I paid a little more for it because after looking at some Paul Smith suits 'Made in Portugal' and various other brands made around the world, this particular Burberry line was 'Made in Italy' and the quality of the cut and manufacture was visibly superior.

Even the British brands, i.e. Loakes have the majority of the shoes made in India. They get the leather sent across, it's quality checked then sent over to India then the shoes are made.

This includes a few styles of the £200 price mark

That's because Loakes are at best average (sure, they're better than what you might find in TopMan et al though). Barker are good step up from Loakes and tend to be made in the UK (although you might have to check, they might do some cheaper lines abroad). Grenson do some good stuff as well.

Look at Crockett and Jones if you want some good quality, English made shoes though.

Looks like it fits well which is 90% of wearing a suit, irrespective of the branding, materials, colour. You spend so many people wearing ill fitting suits.

How much did you spend?
