The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

I can see were you're coming from I tried Levis 511's but they were just too tight so went for 501's, I couldn't get them any smaller as they wouldn't fit round the waist.

All my other Jeans are slimmer fitting I fancied some a bit more relaxed.

I usually wear my Strike Gold 2109 Pure Gold Jean, slim Tapered 17oz Unsanforized Japanese Selvedge Denim which as you can see are a bit tighter fit :)

Where did you buy these? I saw them on a site called hype beast a while back but never was able to locate some to buy (always out of stock)!

Having not trudged through the endless pages after the first post - I would advise anyone to consider Loakes for their footwear - classic & modern... Pricey, but since Debenhams now sell them, you can grab some bargains for boats that will last...

Best advice for any leather shoe though: KEEP THEM CLEAN - Invest in a couple of brushes, some polish and a decent buffing cloth. Doesn't matter how expensive your shoes are, nor the rest of your outfit; scuffed/dirty shoes are inexcusable and many will admit, shoes are a good indicator as to the calibre of person they're dealing with*...

*Unless you're a billionaire, in which case, 20 year old Hi-Tec pumps are fine...

Is that thinking apply across the board?

What if I repair the underground for living? I would pay attention more to the safety and full operation of my equipment than the shine on my boots.

Personally I think people who judge people like that are a greater indicator of the person they are, rather than a scuff on a shoe.

Anyone recommend some wide fitting brown brogue boots for around 100 gbp?

I have had a look in many high street stores but most are too long when i get a size which is wide enough! I have seen some loakes but they are 210 which is unfortunately out of budget, although I may just pay that if I have to.

Of course not - my old man repairs the comms on the underground and I would wear steel toe shoes to meet the safety requirements for my job - but turning to, they'd be clean...
As for when we're not in work specific attire, my point ( I obviously didn't get across well) is that clean is more important than expensive...

As if ultra skinny jeans weren't bad enough, they come up with meggings...eurgh !

I continue to ignore mainstream fashion, and am awaiting a fitting for my second bespoke suit from a local tailor who used to work at Kilgours.

I've also bought some shirts from Harvie and Hudson, and some shoes from Barkers and Churches (as well as some cheap second-hand stuff from ebay, including a velvet smoking jacket :D )

Raymond, probably the KG's...

As for Jeans, have you tried the 511 commuters?

They do some lovely ones in a deep blue. I went for a 30W 32L, and got them adjusted by Levi's for length.

Anything they do that is 'commuter' is absolutely incredible. They've been my daily wear for cycling into uni, sitting around the house, and just about everything else for the last month I'd say..

Just got back in to the merino wool jumpers I ordered from H&M and they are very nice. I a bit long in the arm but worth the cash, not sure what I'll do with three of them though haha.
