The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

Just got back in to the merino wool jumpers I ordered from H&M and they are very nice. I a bit long in the arm but worth the cash, not sure what I'll do with three of them though haha.

I always find H&M long in the arm.

I usually get jumpers from Uni Qlo but also recently picked up some from J Crew which you can get here now through mail order and Mr Porter also have a selection of their stuff as well.

J Crew's cashmere is apparently from the same mills as Loro Piana (but J Crew's are woven in to jumpers in China rather than Italy).

You paid nearly £300 for a pair of jeans
The mind boggles

No, I managed to pick them up for a bit less than that.

Jeans. The more expensive you buy, the more hard-wearing?

On the contrary, these are in loomstate form so literally straight off the loom, raw, unsanforized, slubby (hairy). They are 17oz so a heavy denim and at first are pretty awkward to wear but as you break them in they'll soften, fade, crease and mould to your body

And because of the abrasiveness of raw denim the jeans will age faster and fade more than regular denim, they will also shrink when first soaked.
The rivets are even made of contrasting metals to rust and react with each other.

Well something like that anyway :D

Cool might as well get some plimsolls. I've been needing some shoes to fit between my scratty gym trainers and leathers for months now :o
I always buy a couple of pairs of plimpsolls in the ASOS sales, I wear them all the time as they're so comfy and convenient and go with most of my casual stuff!

Hi all,

My first post in this thread :) - I have a formal Work Xmas a week Friday and I would like to dress smart, but not in a full suit preferably.

I'm a large/fat guy, 38" waist etc.. would would you recommend? I was thinking of grey trousers with a crisp white shirt and a knitted wool tie or something along those lines..

Any ideas would be awesome :)

All a full suit is over what you listed is a jacket... personally if it's a "formal" dinner i'd go with the suit, crisp white shirt and no tie (or with tie if you prefer), and then just take the jacket off when you sit down. Alternatively, wear a smart wool v-neck over the white shirt to go for a smart casual look when you take the jacket off.

With a nice pair of shiny black or brown shoes obviously!

Sorry, have to lol at this. :D
