The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

I tend to buy standard stuff with a few odd items.

Standard black jeans, ideally Levis depending on my wealth, polo shirts, idealy Ralph Lauren or Lacoste or Fred Perry is ok as long as you don't buy the chav ones. Wool jumpers, again, ideally one of the traditional brands but happy with cheap stuff aswell and then only a couple of shirts as I hardly wear them

Also doesn't hurt to have an alternative to jeans such as green brown cords or something khaki colour and even a pair of standard adidias trackies.

That way you can always bung a jumper and shirt/shirt with dark jeans and look ok.

And ofcourse a decent coat. Don't actually have a posh one more of a hiking one but no one cares about your 1k leather jacket and I would feel like an idiot, not that mature yet. :p

Then buy random patterned / picture tshirts, jackets, hoodies, hats etc when I see ones I like.

I deffinety agree with the traditional brands thing, either get something that will still be cool in 20 years like plain Lacost/Ralph Lauren or get it cheap. Most brands/fashion come and go so quick you will feel like a plonker 6 months later when it looks dated/becomes chavvy.

Or just buy cheap stuff from second hand or TKMaxx/Primark if you can be arsed rummaging.

In my opinion TK Maxx is a terrible shop. The only reason that there are some designer clothes in there is due to that the brands responsible for making said clothes couldnt shift them in there own shop..

I've been in there very occassionally because of being with someone who likes it but the clothes awful and its a bloody mess.. They are left over clothes for a reason.

I reckon people just buy designer clothes in there to say look what i've got for this price.. its at that price because its ****. I'd rather go to burtons or river island than shop in that hell hole. Or if you save up get some nice clothes from some nice shops ;)

He be trollin', right? Right?

Fashion isn't something to be taken this seriously unless it's your job. Like you're a buyer or something.

It's fine to care about how you dress. But to put this much thought and attention into it is frivolous.

I wear the jumpers that you described except I vary with zipped and round as well as the v necks. I buy mine from Hackett and Charles Tyrwhitt.

Quite drab imo, nothing different or special about what you've shown us.

I'm saying because most of the stuff you've shown us, and therefore give us a sense of your style, is what most people dress like anyway and I don't really think it's worth posting.

You're wrong, you can grab some gems there. It's 98% ****, 2% win.

I respect your opinion, but you haven't understood the point of the post and clothes choices. They are meant to be more refined and elegant, therefore not "omgfancy" in styling. Hardly 'drab' though if you do it right.

Excellent timing Richdog,
I've just decided to start dressing my age but then realised I really don't have a clue where to start.

Thanks, and the same to other people posting their ideas, it's been very helpful :)

on another note. can someone please advise me where i can get some practical yet fashionable shoes as an 18 year old male? nothing majorly expensive please. I quite like this new boot fashion so those would be ok so long as they're not the majorly preppy ones!

I can't say I know what preppy is to be honest but I have a pair of G-Star Nimrods like these
