The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

mum found some pictures of me when i was about 10/11 i still wear the same style of clothes cargo/combat pants, boots and plain shirts. :D

just now my going out cargo pants cost me £200 quid for a pair :o

isn't boot cut the modern way of saying flares :P

Levi boot cut has a very slight and slim flare, just large enough to cover boots or shoes. Considering "flare" is a catch-all term, it's not really a useful description when describing subtlety.

In comparison, I find skinny jeans horrendous when they don't even cover the laces of your shoes with their tiny leg openings.

skinny jeans are a weird concept to me, why would you want to show off the fact you've got borderline anorexic legs that are thinner than the average guys arms.

Yeah I agree it's not particularly masculine or flattering for male physiques, and I know lots of women that really don't finds them attractive on guys. I respect people's right to wear them, but part of my logic with fashion is to look and feel good while appealing to the opposite sex, and putting off a large portion of them doesn't make sense to me.

a lot of younger women do like them though.

they look ungodly uncomfortable though

Anyone have any ideas... I'm heavily tattooed and I'm after a kind of smart shirt/tshirt (or it can be bright and bolt) something with high cut sleeves so it can show of as much of my arm tattoos as possible and preferably something which can show off my chest tattoo a little... Not really sure what I'm looking for but I kind of have a mental image... I'm 6 foot 3 and have around a 48" chest.

Basically you are describing one of those really low neckline tshirts that muscleheads commonly wear... link to photo here http://seriouslymen.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/deep-low-v-neck-t-shirts-for-men.jpg

Bit of a mini thread revival but this seems the best place to put my query.

I'm looking to get a couple of casual blazers that will go with jeans or casual trousers but the fits "off the rack" are poor. My body shape has changed a fair bit due to hitting the weights and I used to be able to get a good fit with slim-fit suits without adjustments.
Is it standard for 46" jackets not being suitable for 16.5" arms? A couple I couldn't even get my arms all the way down the sleeves due to the arm hole size.
Only had 20 mins the other day to try on 5-6 jackets in JL and H&M. I'm by no means hench or stocky so am surprised.
Is a tailored jacket the only option? I don't really want to spend more than £150 on a jacket.

Ta

i have a few i got from amazon brand marc darcy they are a good fit and good quality to think they where around the £75 mark

Had some time after eating lunch today to browse some outlets. Never been a fan of AllSaints standard jackets, far too "out there" for my liking, although I got a really nice wool jacket by chance which was smart and perfect for work. That was £70 on EOL from just over the £200 it used to be.

Anyway, I went back there today to see if there were any other deals to be had and saw this for £160. The fit is very similar to my custom made Soul Revolver jacket, the feel is almost as soft too, though that jacket is nappa, this is kid skin. It has 2 inside pockets too, which the website doesn't mention strangely. The offer ends tomorrow afternoon so will go back up to just over £200.

It looks way nicer in person than it does on the website pictures and my question really is does anyone have one of these or one like it? If so, any views on how these "kid skin" jackets fair after a while of daily wear?

I bought some new clothes recently from debenhams. Bought some well fitting trousers for once. Three casual shirts. Some cat boots.

Tell me what you think?

I like the trousers and the turquoise shirt. In fact I'm looking for a nice pair of brown trousers myself. The orange shirt is very similar of course but I just prefer the colour of the turquoise and think it would compliment the trousers more than the orange (although I tend to wear much more plain shirts myself and would likely pair that shirt with indigo jeans or lighter tan chinos).

I also do like the boots in isolation. They are quite casual though so probably best paired with jeans rather than trousers. To pair with trousers I'd be inclined for a suede desert boot or chukka.

Any reason you want leather? It's more likely to attract attention (ie stolen), more expensive, less able to stretch to fit things in, more likely to get damaged when thrown in the back of a car/train/plane and more expensive to start with.

It does look good though.

I'm not adverse to faux leather, but I thought I'd treat myself. The only reason I want real leather is that it looks great. However, it's not looking likely I'll find something in my budget and likely have to go for faux.

I think the boots are good.
The trousers don't look well fitting in the picture though, they look a relaxed fit. I personally think a slim fit is a more up to date look.
Also not keen on the shirts, I think it's difficult to pull of a good luck with short sleeve shirts, perhaps with shorts. I'd rather just roll the sleeves up on long sleeve.
I also think the pattern is perhaps a little dated, a monochrome / grey look is more current, or maybe a blue shirt either pale or navy.

Obviously that's just my view but that's the look I'm going for anyway.
