The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

I kinda prefer baggy - but I'll try the 504s and 541s in a store and see what they're like.

Levis stores do free adjustments on any of their jeans I believe. So try something like a 504, size up if needed, then get the waist and lower leg tapered.

That would be handy if they do that - thanks for the info :)

Finally managed to get some boots from Duggers, love them.

not really into patterned stuff myself but they're quite nice :)

on the subject of shoes - has anyone on here been to the factory shops in Northampton? Worth a trip to pick up a couple of bargains.. I mean I guess I'd have to buy a couple of pairs at least but if we're talking 50% off then it could well be worth it. (have got a few weddings this summer so some new black Oxfords would be good.)

Alternative is maybe for me to get a pair of Loake shoes, which seem to be the entry level/reasonably priced of the 'proper' shoe manufacturers - what I do want to avoid is leather that is already partly shiny/bookbinder leather etc.. I'd much rather a plain/dull finish with decent leather that I'll polish up myself

Loake 1880 range are made in UK, others are not. My take on this is you`re paying substantial cash anyway so cut to the chase and get Crockett & Jones, best half decent proper shoes imo.

Well they'd definitely be one of the Northampton manufacturers I'd be keen to visit along with Church's.

Yup can see the Loake 1880 range are higher priced, calf leather etc.. I guess I'd need to see them in person though - just don't want any of that treatment **** some manufacturers use on the leather.

501's are tighter in the upper thigh than 504's. For a 30" waist (so I'm relatively slim) I sometimes struggle with 501's in the thigh until they have broken in a bit. 504's are more relaxed in that area. For someone with Freefallers build I suspect 501's will be even tighter. But it's obviously worth trying all styles in a shop.

I went through this recently. Visited the Levi store to confirm what style number and size I wanted first. Then get signed up for the Levis mailing list and keep an eye out for sales. You can generally combine a 10% or 20% discount code with their sales and quidco cashback to make them really cheap. You can also sign up to the mailing list multiple times to get multiple 10-20% codes. Also keep an eye out on Amazon as their prices are generally very good.

I've recently bought 3 pairs at the Levi store (£36, £37, £42 plus quidco) and 3 pairs at Amazon (£46, £49, £52), all of which were normally priced at £85+.

There is definitely a difference between the UK jeans and the US jeans though in my opinion. The denim on my US jeans seems a lot thinner than the UK bought pairs.

Levis are made in various countries and unfortunately their quality control is notoriously poor. The material and fit for what should be the same pair of jeans does vary.

I have a few pairs of 541s, and they were a revelation. They fit perfect at the waist and thighs (i also have big thighs).

I'm sure it's been mentioned in this thread - but can anyone remind me of a place that sells jeans for slim waists and large thighs? I'm running out of jeans at the moment, they last about a year as they end up wearing away at the thigh where they rub. 95% of the off the peg jeans just don't fit unless I opt for a 38" waist which is ridiculous.

I've tried sites such as high and mighty and jacamo, but they tend to cater for the very big, or the tall and not for oddities with small wastes, large thighs, and regular sort of height.

You tried nudiejeans, they seem to do lots of different fits.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of debate about this. I don't know what the real truth is, but in my experience, I've had around 7 pairs of Levis from the US and all have been of similar quality, but the fit has varied massively between colours. Notably they are a relatively thin denim and specifically the badge on the waist is made from a paper thin material which breaks up easily. In contrast, I have had 6 pairs of Levis bought in the UK, each a different model/colour, and all 6 pairs have fitted the same. They are also a thicker denim than the US pairs and have a thick leather badge on the belt/waist line. I dont think i'll ever buy Levis in the US again.

Anyone know of a place that sells slim fitting swim shorts?

Im quite slim in the leg and all the swimming shorts I look at in high street shops look way to wide in the leg opening.
I also like a swim short that has a bit of length so it sits just above the knee.

Im finding it extremely difficult!:(
