The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

80 is still a bit rich for a pair of jeans IMO. Then again I resent paying high prices for clothing. :o but I am not into fashion in the slightest as long as it is comfortable that's all I care about.

House of fraser had a half price sale last week, some had even more knocked off. Bagged some nice jeans which should have been £110 for £45. Bought four pairs, loved three and returned one.

but yeah, I'd never spend more than around £50 for jeans

guess this is quite an appropriate place to ask.

ive never been fashion conscious, and am still mostly not. the wife thinks i need to dress a bit more trendy and not my usual jeans, t shirt, zip up hoody & skate shoes (or similar)

ive started wearing different clothes which is a nice change but its the shoes im having issues with. i tend to wear what ever is most comfortable for me. suffice to say these few pairs of trainers i have have seen better days.

i hate spending a lot on clothes and shoes but have an upcoming disney paris trip with the wife and kids so am looking for some appropriate footwear for such situation, some which will be comfortable but also will be adequate for a large amount of walking.

any suggestions?

A pair of chukka or desert boots in suede are slightly more dressy than trainers and still comfy. Leather chukkas are again a touch more dressy than suede and will be usable in poorer weather too.

If you are looking for something a notch above that then tan brogues go nicely with jeans but I find not quite as comfy as chukkas.

Never been one for shoes unless I'm wearing a suit :S for a bit smarter stuff personally tend to wear black leather type trainers from stuff that looks almost dress shoe through to Merrell Sprint Blast (in black) and a couple of different pairs of boots one being http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Dune+Simon+Seam+Detail+Lace+Boots/D219578,default,pd.html (wouldn't recommend those any more though as apparently the quality has dropped through the floor since I bought but just as an example).

Clarks 'original' desert boot might do the trick... apparently based on the boots worn by British Officers in North Africa in WW2... which in turn were introduced by soldiers who'd fought in South Africa bush wars. Quite fancy a pair myself, my Granddad was an officer in the North African campaign.

Morning all.

Currently looking at a suit for a wedding and eyeing up something like this (large photo in spoilers)

Only problem is I'm at limbo as to what colour tie to go with it. Suggestions? I'm not sure if navy/blue goes with it...

A shawl-collared, light blue suit? Eek... hope it's not a smart of formal affair!

Two weddings in one day. More of a summer garden party type thing. Don't see a problem with it to be honest.

It's pretty hideous in both design and colour

Go for classic styling - navy or charcoal notch lapel suit.

Good ties for both charcoal and navy are red, brown, black. Navy tie works well with charcoal suit, and a grey tie looks good with a navy suit. Knitted ties are always a safe bet, simple yet different.

Imo that's not much better. It might just be the way they've styled it but that all looks far too tight, particularly the trousers. Slim fit is fine and it's my preferred style, but that's skinny fit to the point where it looks ridiculous. I'd expect joggers to fit a bit like that, not formal trousers. I can tell based on the pictures that you're looking at Asos, I wouldn't back their quality when it comes to a suit. If it's for just that day and you really don't want to spend much on it (and seeing as you said you are slim) I'd go for Topman.

If you want to spend a bit more and get better quality or if you'll be wearing it on more occasions in the future, try M&S or TM Lewin, both are excellent.
