The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Errr no. It's slightly better and clocked very high, need to see how far it clocks to make a fair judgment on this card.

Plus the BF3 slide was omitted in the link too and both the GTX680 and HD7970 are more or less the same in this game.

So more performance for less power? Any idea on the price yet?

Edit: 1GHz on the core stock?

Basically in MW3 and BF3 the cards are more or less the same. In LP2 there is a significant performance boost but both LP and LP2 have done very well on Nvidia cards in the past and Batman:Arkham Asylum is around 10% performance boost.

Much lower idle power consumption for the HD7970,around 50W less at load for the GTX680 on average(sometimes less and sometimes more) under 3DMark11. Price is rumoured to be betweeen $499 to $550.

The core clock is 1006MHZ and it can boost itself upto 1058MHZ.

As hyped as I am about the new cards I am slowly getting bored and my trusty 460 should be able to keep me going until a major new game is released which will require a faster card. Even then I will be able to get 600 series card without paying a day one price.

If these benchmarks prove to be accurate then in games the 680 is faster than the 580 by 33,36,10 and 35 percent so an averge of ~29%

How does this compare to previous Nvidia launches (using various review sites at 1080p)?

GTX480 was 41% faster than GTX285 so already this launch is worse than fermi by a large chalk.

GTX280 was 50% faster than 9800GTX.

8800GTX was 70% faster than 7900GTX

So looking like the worst high end Nvidia single GPU in recent memory.

A forum member on XS overclocked their HD7970 to 1060MHZ to match the GTX680 maximum Turbo Boost speed:

The HKEPC review used a 3.3GHZ Core i7 3960X six core CPU and the forum member used a much slower Core i7 950 overclocked to 3.3GHZ which is a quad core, and the former also has PCI-E 3.0 which not all systems has.

Basically,in 3DMark11 Extreme preset,Batman:Arhkam Asylum and Unigine the scores of the two cards were more or less identical.

I know quite a few people with dyslexia and usually when they write their sentence structure is fine, it's just that they making more spelling mistakes and grammatical errors (so pretty it's pretty much indistinguishable from normal internet posts).

Fair enough but I was meaning his use of 'you're' over 'your' could be explained by that. Some people who are otherwise very articulate seem to type in quite an unstructured and difficult to understand fashion. Even academics.

GTX260 at the mo, sold the 480 on a few month back. Any card I get will be clocked to the max, I know the 7950 is a great clocker, just need the lowdown on the 680.

Need to see some actual everyday use benchmarks to compare it. Saying 'wow look at the 3dmark scores!' when it's got a LN2 cooled SB-E alongside it doesn't help much :p

so the 660 with a last minute bios update for higher clocks and marketed as the 680 is doing well... great, cant wait for the proper kepler :)
