Ah OK so which nVidia card will compete the 7950 and is there an ETA on that? I don't want to wait 6 months for a card that'll only be 10% faster than a 7950. I game at 1080p anyway so I think a 7950 will let me play BF3 with everything on High and SBAO off above 60fps. My current CF 5850s struggle when things get really hectic in BF3

That guy with an I3 and a 7970 got a score of 1359 same settings as the 680 had.

AFAIK this is the only Nvidia card for now. This 680 was supposed to be the 570 replacement. GK110 in Q3/4 of this year.
Somebody will correct me if I am wrong though (please)

Yes, certainly does look this way.
Now we just need ot understand if the nVidia card is generating that performance at 700MHz (which would make it a very impressive showing against the 7970 at 950MHz) or at 1000MHz (which would be not so impressive).
So on that basis I may aswell get a Sapphire 7950 OC now as the GTX680 is going to be way out of my price range (which is anything above £400) and the "lower spec" Nvidia cards wont be out till end of this year.
Eventually I could crossfire that 7950 too.... aaaghh what do I do!?

That's run BF3 on High at 1080P with no SBAO at +60fps easily. And with news on MLAA improvements it'll be a massive improvement over my CF 5850s.

I am rubbish at specing any item Elrasho (I will leave that to Stulid and Cmdr Andi) however if your budget is £400 then the 7950 is a fantastic card which overclocks really well.
Your choice as the 680 will be released this week to either hang on or buy something else though IMO.

Gibbo is tellins us that pricing for the GTX680 will basically be the same as the 7970.
There are 7970s available for £360 delivered from what I've read....we can hold out hope for a sensible price on nVidia's rebadged mid-range card!
Those 7970s ahve the stock cooler which is too loud for me. The 7970s with custom coolers are above £450 that's why I'm going for a 7950. I think a 7970 for someone who only plays at 1080p is overkill.

ai but I'm not going to be gaming above 1080P anytime soon, only just got my 24" Asus 6 months ago. That Sapphire 7950 OC is becoming a better choice the more I think about it, but I'm still going to wait and see how the GTX 680 perform.
