I somehow doubt 700MHZ would be a low power state though??
The GTX580 idle clockspeeds are well under 125MHZ:

My guess is it defaults at 700mhz, then ramps up to 1000-1050 mhz under 3d load.

I hate the feeling of being torn between a Sapphire 7950 OC or a GTX680. Is the GTX680 is meant to compete with the 7950?
No bud. It is meant to compete with the 7970.
Ah OK so which nVidia card will compete the 7950 and is there an ETA on that? I don't want to wait 6 months for a card that'll only be 10% faster than a 7950. I game at 1080p anyway so I think a 7950 will let me play BF3 with everything on High and SBAO off above 60fps. My current CF 5850s struggle when things get really hectic in BF3
cpu bottle
AFAIK this is the only Nvidia card for now. This 680 was supposed to be the 570 replacement. GK110 in Q3/4 of this year.
Somebody will correct me if I am wrong though (please)
So on that basis I may aswell get a Sapphire 7950 OC now as the GTX680 is going to be way out of my price range (which is anything above £400) and the "lower spec" Nvidia cards wont be out till end of this year.
Eventually I could crossfire that 7950 too.... aaaghh what do I do!?
Go for this mate.

Gibbo is tellins us that pricing for the GTX680 will basically be the same as the 7970.
There are 7970s available for £360 delivered from what I've read....we can hold out hope for a sensible price on nVidia's rebadged mid-range card!
overkill is better than underkill
Edit: Is underkill even a word?
ai but I'm not going to be gaming above 1080P anytime soon, only just got my 24" Asus 6 months ago. That Sapphire 7950 OC is becoming a better choice the more I think about it, but I'm still going to wait and see how the GTX 680 perform.
