The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

If those slides are true then it will be much easier to skip the single cards from this generation. Especially at launch pricing.

*edit, actually I will wait for overclocking reviews.

680 vs 7970 1080p

Dirt3 99 81
Hawx2 207 148
Metro 64 72
Skyrim 93 83
WOW 120 88
BF3 78 68
Crysis2 70 56
A lot quieter than the 7970 at load, 4C hotter (79 vs 75)

Average performance in 6 games 87.9 vs 74.3 (18% faster than 7970, 30% faster than 580)

3dM11 3396 2918

So the HK review looked about right, their average game performance was 29% faster than 580, Tom's is 30%.

For comparison Fermi, the worst gain in recent times across a die shrink, was 40% faster than GTX285.

My conclusion is if priced at £450 the card is a joke.

It Depends on how you look at it IF and this is a big IF this was intended to be the mid range card thats impressive that its 18% faster than a 7970 both at stock. IMO if its £450 and is 18% faster than a 7970 then that price isnt too bad regardless of weather its a mid range part or not it will be the fastest single GPU personally i think its going to be around the £400 mark give or take £20

If those slides are to be believed and there is room to up the turbo boost frequency the 680 could be a real winner.

If it the price comes in the same as/lower than a 7970 and AMD do not do some severe price cutting it makes my decision easy. Stick with Team Green.

If the 7970 can achieve ~30% performance from overclocking with the reference cooler and if it came out before the 680 so they could clock to whatever it takes to win at stock frequencies and if they price it to compete with the 7970, does anyone give an IF what stock results they give?

We know nothing of how they match up yet I think.

If that's stock vs stock then there'll be nothing but a fag paper between them clock for clock. The 7970 will always do better at higher res and AA levels though. Interested to see if they shake things up with the price.

It's amazing how easily some people have forgotten that the 6000 and 500 generation were a disappointment compared to the 5000 and 400 generation, with a few exceptions.

Now proportionately it appears the performance from 6000/500 to 7000/600 is going to be less than it was going from 5000/400 to 6000/500 yet people are singing its praises?!

I would be amused if I wasn't in a state of disbelief over the justifications I'm reading.

Looking at those slides the 680 beats the 7970 in all but 2 dx 11 game and beats it in most dx 9 games.

It would be interesting to see what it overclocks too but if this card is the same price or close to the 7970 then it will be worth getting instead.

It seems in Metro2033,Crysis2 and BF3 at higher resolution the cards are comparable. I suspect a 4GB GTX680 might provide a performance boost but at what price?? At 1080P it looks a very nice card indeed and better than the HD7970 3GB overall.

The only issue is that it is going to be around £400.
