The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

you cant love all amd fanboys in threads like this :D
and they usual non-funny "jokes" like "wooden screws" - same category like "can it play crysis?" - fanboyism at its best - funniest thing, that even so called Nvidias "wooden" cards easily beat amd's plastic cards :D
would be nice to get such card for ~300,which is not even Nvidias high end and still managing beat amd's high end - priceless, especialy for those, who got amd's overpriced 7xxx series for 400+ :D

All I know is if the GTX680/GTX670/GTXwhatever obliterates a GTX580,with a shorter PCB and less power consumption and is under £300 then I will probably get one myself eventually. This is why I have posted whatever I can find in this thread.

The HT like technology and Turbo Boost looks very interesting. Maybe Nvidia is trying to maximise what they can do for a given transistor count??

these jokes are getting old though and there are people that hope nvidia fails to deliver so the desperate for cash amd can keep on ripping people off. so pathetic...

I don't see this being under £300 surely not?! I think people might have a shock!
As this is the spiritual GTX460/560 replacement, I cannot see it costing more than £300. With a 256bit bus and a die which is approximatley half the size of a GTX580 it should also be MUCH cheaper to produce than the GTX580's.

I think £250 to £280 will be the launch price, and if it offers GTX580 bettering performance I will probably by one or two.

The die size is suppost to be similar to that of tahiti which is 365nm. I dont think die size is going to determine the price. Its going to be decided on speed imo. We have heard rumours that this card will do well in nvidia games that have the physx code written into the games but in others it may struggle to best pitcairn.

It really does not matter that this is the gtx460/560 replacement especially if it comes out with the name gtx680. Its the best nvidia have atm and i think it will be priced that way. When the 7 series nvidia cards arrive then i think you will see this card called the 760ti with a price that reflects that name.

The one thing i do know is that if its besting a 7970 in quit a few games then it wont be cheap. I also want to see what games are allowed into the benchmark suites for the review sites.

it was when they were calling it 670ti and saying performance wise it was >580 ~7950... now they are calling it 680 and saying it's >10% 7970 in which case £300 is blown out of the water I'd say, but it does leave space for a 660/670 @ ~580 performance for ~£250 which is what I am hoping for (and resale prices on 580's to drop under £200)

I think, as others have suggested, that what we have been calling GTX680 / GK110 / Full Fat Kepler is now going to be delayed to right near the end of 2012 and be released as GTX780 - maybe that was always the plan given that early slide that showed GTX780 @ 2x 580 level performance

Looks like AMD / NVidia turned into a Cold War. Both seem happy to keep the status quo, pricing their cards by relative performance (including older generation) rather than value for money and undercutting their mortal enemy. The profit margins on a 7870 must be massive! Shame for us the consumers. The 68xx 69xx / 5xx series have to dissapear fast to give room for the current gen, and neither companies are in a hurry, it seems.

Goddamnit, I want to see blood!

That actually looks like wood. :o

Early mock ups will mate. They will simply put a block of MDF on a CNC machine and cut it out and decorate it to see what the card looks like.

Hence the big Fermi thing with the wood screws.

Wood is far cheaper than billet and takes far less time to cut.

Haha! Okay I didn't know but I get it now :D you actually learn things on these forums!

The GTX670TI is probably the salvage GK104 part. CD said their were two GK104 parts, the GK104-400 and GK104-335:

http://semiaccurate.com/2012/02/09/there-are-two-gk104kepler-variants/

I suspect he might have seen the GTX670TI,which in theory should be in between HD7950 and HD7970 performance, if the GTX680 is 10% faster in BF3 than an HD7970.

What i am wondering is how much performance this turbo gives in games like bf3. Is the nvidia card sitting way above its normal clocks because it needs to in bf3 giving a false result. I want to see what these cards are like without the turbo as you could easily turbo a 7970 by overclocking it. I know its 2 different methods but for a fair comparison of the cards i hope the review sites do there tests with turbo off and then do a comparison with turbo on to show the difference.

Personally i just want these cards launched so i dont need to see another wait for kepler its just around the corner post lol. If it was a car race it would have been on an oval as theres no corner long enough for kepler. I am also in the market soon for a new card so the sooner the better for me.

Feels a bit optimistic to me... If performance is better than a stock 7970, then I can't see it below £300.

If the full range was being released simultaneously, then yes, a sub-£300 price would be expected. But this will function as Nvidia's high-end card for the next few months, and I imagine they will price it as such. £325 - £350 is my guess.
