The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

If Nvidia release a 660 as a 680 with the price to boot and not the performance then I think fermi will look like a dream launch compared.

Looking at one of the recent Chinese threads they say 128TMU (same as 580) and 32 ROPS (2/3 that of 580)

Dual-GK104 Graphics Card Arrives in May
A little later this month, NVIDIA will launch the GeForce GTX 680, a single-GPU graphics card based on its GK104 performance GPU. It is reported that NVIDIA will design a dual-GPU graphics accelerator based on the same chip, which will then be positioned as an enthusiast product. Called the GeForce GTX 690, this dual-GPU solution will arrive in May.

NVIDIA's approach to the high-end segment, so far, is identical to that of AMD. It hasn't unveiled its enthusiast GK100 GPU, yet, and is instead using performance-segment GK104 for both its single-GPU high-performance graphics card, and as a dual-GPU part in an enthusiast-grade product. This buys NVIDIA plenty of time to release the GK100, unless AMD can offer a new GPU that trumps GK104 in performance, significantly.

i told u guys yesterday truth as my friend is testing it 2 6 pins

low power consumption ver cool card and equal to 7970

and overclocks very well

but as no one knows about pricing except gibbo :D

in usa it will retail 499 by his opinion

one good thing for this card u didnt need 2 coolers thats great

blame amd for this as 7970 should be much more powerfull

Well we knew it was two six pins weeks ago :)

Fudzilla and a couple of other sites reakon $549, although they do confess Nvidia will likely change that.

I don't think I will "blame" AMD per se as I don't think that's fair. Releasing "all of" Tahiti would have been desperately stupid. It's taken them time and money to make.

The bottom line is the 7970 was not disappointing performance wise at launch. Not to me, and certainly not when compared to their existing cards (most notably the 6970).

It also has 3gb vram and is acceptable when it comes to noise and power draw.

Now they can really let fly and release Tenerife. From the looks of it they are going to have to, because there is no way in hell it will compete with Nvidia's next cards given that their mid range card can do what it supposedly does.

As a 7970 owner I find it hard to complain. I mean, every game I have fed it it has just chewed up and spat out, and it even manages to do the same when ran in 3D. So fair play and all that :)

so far Ive read pricing rumours of $475, $499 and now $550.

that equates too: £343, £381 and £420

now it could be as we know happens Nvidia telling different people different prices to see who's leaking information, or it could be that different companies telling the press the price of their brand. Only time will tell.

On a complete side note, I'm quite impressed with Nvidia for getting the 660 class card to be competitive with the 7970 (it would seem that it will be as all the rumours are saying the same thing). it would be like the GTX560ti being as good as the 6970.

At what?

+1

Couldn't agree more, AMD is holding back on the 7970 performance as I have mentioned before.
I still think it has hidden shaders, etc, all it need is a bios update to unleash it.

I must say there is a part of me that hopes that is true and they did not lazer cut it out.

Thing is they do lazer cut now to prevent unlocking (6950 for example).

Time will tell I guess. But it would certainly make for a nice easter egg :)
