The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

who actually paid money for metro 2033? seriously?

skyrim can be played at max settings on a 6970 or 570 so why would you care how it runs on a 7970/680?

crysis 2 is over a year old, so why use an outdated game that no one is even playing anymore?

I like that you are getting so worked up over a card you've stated many times you have no intention of buying, you are absolutely hilarious
you're also bigging up the card that in another thread you say you want to cut in half with a chainsaw because the support is so bad

.The fact that you can buy a Radeon 7970 3gb now for £400 ish is pretty cool. Especially when you realise that a 8800 Ultra was over £500 at launch and the 7970 is faster than four of them put together.

..

no it isn't, because i can pay this same price for a 50'' plasma, this card and all the others are way too expensive... this is especially bad because we're in a recession right now, because it's not just about buying this, it's the Electricity, council tax, petrol etc.

i've built a top end rig for only 450 quid.... i only need the card now, but there's no way i'm going above 350 quid for this, you just need to compare prices online and i dont think i'm the only one around here that's careful nowadays.

it's the wrong time to be releasing a card costing 500 quid, people just dont have the money nowadays

How is this cherry picking? BF3 is probably the most important game around, performance-wise. And Arkham City is another tessellation heavy DX11 title It also includes many other games other than those two so it's hardly cherry picking.

Not to mention synthetics like heaven and 3DMark 11.

On the contrary, you're cherry picking BF3 and Batman to whinge about

No problem with BF3, Batman AC is pointless in my opinion but Lost Planet takes the biscuit.
CoD is as representative to PC gaming as 3Dmark and Heaven, not at all.

Only BF3 and temperature are the benchmarks worth looking at from that bunch and a relevant review should also have power draw, Crysis, Metro, Dirt 3 and TF2/Portal to satisfy my mind.

And 1080p is a good resolution to start at.

I bought it during a steam sale for a couple of quid purely to use as a benchmark :D

How can you compare a graphics card to a plasma TV?

Disappointing TBH, for a 1000 core card it's not exactly beating the 7970 by a significant amount. Interesting to see how far the 680 clocks, if it's a bad clocker then I can only see me going with the higher spec 7950 especially if the 680 comes in at £400+.

Yup most 7970 owners this forum are running at 1125-1575MHz 24/7 (CCC ONLY), will be interesting to see what it can reach.

Wait a second!! Why do those LP2 numbers relative to the GTX580 look weird??

Has any of the recent Nvidia driver sets had improved LP2 performance recently??

the last chart you posted shows 580 at 53FPS and 7970 at 60FPS at some settings

that's not a million miles off from the results on the chinese site
you don't know what they used as a benchmark run, benchmarking is never 100% the same from run to run

2GB of RAM aint enough, it's the one think the pro gamers told me to get right, do not get anything less than 3GB !

.

Forgetting of course resolution.

I suggest you do a bit more reading. Let's see if 2gb is enough when you add three monitors and crank on the resolution.

But 8x AA is being used in BF3 at Ultra?

You know what that reminds me of?

On launch the only tests the 480 was conclusively faster in were those using 4XFSAA.

Not being funny or owt, but I wouldn't use 8XFSAA even if I could. Just turns into a blurry mess. I tried it once in Grid and it made me feel rather ill.

I don't see the issue...

The 1920x1200, 8xAA score for the GTX580 is 53fps on the last chart, and 54.6 on the new chart...

Is that really such a surprising difference, considering the different platforms?

Don't know what test this site is running but it looks right compared to the second screen you posted.

I was looking at the flipping OC HD7950 3GB!! Doh!! I need to go to Specsavers.

Balance to the force returned.

Also where are the heaven benchmark scores?

Are we supposed to guess what those scores are then? minimum FPS?

Where is the end score?

Now honestly, if you truly don't think those charts are completely and utterly loaded you really need medical assistance.

I also find it hugely ironic and LOLworthy that Nvidia bring power consumption into this when they designed and released Fermi.

Not sure, but the pc gaming shop said..... ``at 1080p any recent card is good enough, but make sure for future proofing that it has no less than 3GB on it``.

``and no less that 4GB on the MOBO... we will install WIN 7.... overclock it and download everything from Steam for 40 quid, it'll take 2 days, you dont need an DISC drive, we'll put everything on it that you need``

i said what card do you recommend then... `` he said, to be honest a GTX 580 is a waste of money.... too powerful for 1080p, but you'll need this for the 3GB RAM``

what about the mobo?....`` doesn't matter, i can get your chip up to 5.0 on any decent mobo``...... but he did say that the chip was important ......

so there you go, i dont really need a 7970, but i will do for future proofing, plus it'll look cool too ha ha !

All we can go on mush is Battlefield 3 and Frostbite II.

The maximum vram consumption used in that we have seen around here is 1.7gb. Normal usage seems to be around the 1.4gb mark.

This is what I meant, though, when I brought up resolution. Those usage levels are not for 1600p, 1440p or any kind of multiple/triple monitor set up.

As texture sizes jump so do the vram usage levels.
