The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

!

Agreed!

I cannot see how anyone can defend the lack of HDMI 2.0, what an utterly stupid decision!

then the cards are no match for a 980ti (I know as I have a pair of Fury X's in my new build)

and no they are not currently an Overclockers Dream and I doubt they ever will be! so prove me wrong AMD :p

Customer's are king, Ignore them at your peril! AMD need to learn this and fast :p

I agree, AMD are not in the enviable position of Nvidia, who can treat their customers like cash cows safe in the knowledge that they'll always come back for more.

AMD need to be careful, and the sooner they clarify their position on the rickety pumps the better.

Greg a little off Topic but are you playing Witcher 3 currently? how's your Fps?

This Fury X seems to be handling it quite well so far at 1440P, maxed minus Hairworks, Averaging around 55-60 with lows to 45.

Pcars really does run like a bag of ***** on AMD cards doesn't it :p

Depends on...
CPU grunt
Operating system (massive boost in Win 10)
Launch commands (multi threaded physics and rendering)
Visuals/Performance settings
Time of day
Weather used
# of AI
etc.

I can hotlap alone in the Formula A in "clear" around Spa GP and get 100+ fps most of the time*, besides near the pit buildings where it drops to ~65, if I use "low" settings at 1200p and just FXAA "high" to resolve jaggies on this ancient machine that still bottlenecks my GPU when overclocking my Q9300 to 3GHz.

If I raise env. map and track to "medium;" car detail and shadow to "ultra;" I can do the same lap almost completely locked to 58fps using the -fpscap 60 launch command.

* Using -pthreads 3 -dx11mt -skipcrowds

Regarding the Fury vs TX image quality argument, this has been something I've definitely noticed for years. Granted I don't own the latest gpu tech to really compare, but going by the comparison in this thread it seems eerily similar to what we've seen before from both AMD and Nvidia, where both camps will cheat through certain tweaks in the drivers, but it seems that they may be a little better at hiding it now, certainly with Nvidia.

In my opinion, I've always felt that AMD gives a crisper image. It has been one of the first things thats stood out to me just looking at the desktop after switching from an Nvidia gpu.

The thing is you need a comparison image to a reference render to know what is actually the representative image. It could well be that the TX image is representative of the reference software render and more accurate than Fury's.

It actually looks to me like the TX is applying higher levels of anisotropic filtering which is giving the smoother appearence, that actually would have a negative performance impact.

Equally, they have a good product in their hands in the form of the Fury X.

Resolve the whiny pump issue and get stock into the stores and it should sell well.

I imagine lots of people have bought 980Ti simply because you can buy it now rather than some unknown date in the near future, now they have this whiny pump issue on top of it.

It's a shame as i really like AMD but Nvidia just seem more attractive at this point. I does seem more and more as if AMD were pinning there hopes on a die shrink, even if was only to 20nm and then had to put this card together in a relatively short space of time. As you said the Fury X is a good product even if it was a little overhyped and i personally am torn between that it and the Ti.

AMD should have delayed the fury x launch to correct pump whine, fully optimize drivers and get some actual cards to market in meaningful quantities.

Now everyone buys the faster ti, bravo AMD.

While i agree with that i don't see how they could have delayed any longer. I mean look at how few are available right now any more of a delay and you may have been looking at the end of August before people could buy in any real numbers. How many people would have waited that much longer when they are looking to upgrade now.

Been badly managed, as most things are with AMD

Needs culling and some new blood in there that cares IMO. with current management don't think this is fixable. :(
