The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

The Sony RX100 MK1 is now under £300 with cashback. Has a 20MP 1" sensor with a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 28-100mm/f1.8 to f4.9 lens.

Edit!!

I had a Rollei 3.5F for a while - lovely camera,but getting film processed was a pain.

You can not beat the quality of medium format.:)

Photographers still use RX 67s even though they don't make them anymore. Where I got used to them I used to use a RZ 67 like most people used 35mm.:)

Supposedly the new Deus Ex engine has been heavily reworked for DX12, how well and how heavily we don't know. But it looks like a fairly heavy implementation. In fact, I don't know if there is a DX11 version ... possible it's been cancelled as W10 is now a free upgrade for W7 / 8 users - they haven't said anything about it. Some of the game world complexity stuff they showed at E3 would be a bit difficult to replicate in DX11, I suspect.

But yeah ... AOTS is the DX12 / Vulkan posterchild, and will no doubt be the go-to DX12 benchmark once W10 drops.

The new Deus Ex and 'Ashes of the singularity' both make use of asynchronous shaders. According to what i have heard at least.

Boomstick, how is the noise at load of the Fury X compared to other cards? I heard there was a problem with the sound of the pump being too loud and AMD asking cooler master to fix it.

I felt bad selling my Rollei 3.5F,as it was a lovely piece of engineering and the Planar lens might have been decades old but it was blooming awesome.

Having said, the D600 I know use is not too bad!! :p

But do want an upgrade my Canon S95 compact,so not sure whether to get that RX100 or a Fuji XE1/XE2. First world problems,LOL! :p

That was sample units I think you are talking about. The customer units are different?

I can only speak for mine. It's really quiet, quiet at IDLE and quiet under LOAD. The actual fan speed doesn't seem to change, it's seems the same to me in IDLE as in LOAD.

Really good cooling design. especially for Reference.

Photography is a strange technology where pics taken 100 years ago on ancient 10 x 8 cameras are far superior to what most people take today.:)

Yeah,I know from personal experience of a family member who used large format cameras like those made by Linhof. Direct view,no direct metering, but had true tilt/shift capability. Many of the older cameras also had zone focusing so you needed to estimate distance. But I have seen some of the one to one contact prints from 10" X 8" film and above - they are amazing and black and white film if shot and processed properly has impressive moodiness to it.

I think the main issue today,is that cameras are incredibly easy to use,so people get lazy about the whole thought process behind a picture since you can just snap away. Plus zooms might have spoilt people in some ways too.

Whereas in the past, with a limited set of shots available, especially with larger format film, when you need to reload at each shot and had to carry your film with you,it encouraged more people to get the composition right in less shots.

Yeah that was the review samples, retails are fine :)

Temps are great on these, should be plenty of room for clocking with a bit of luck.

Nah, it is totally the wrong way to do it.

Just look at how many 980Ti's ocuk alone have shipped today. Over 500 according to Gibbo. Many of these are people who would have opted for the Fury had the reviews not been a bit meh. These are all lost sales to AMD, some of which will also have now bought in to the Nvidia ecosystem with G-Sync meaning they are unlikely to go back to AMD for some time.

Yes, driver performance will improve over time. But to try and say that releasing the cards when driver performance is so poor (relatively speaking) is the right way to do it is way off the mark.

For what it is worth, I like the Fury from what I have seen. It may not be as good as some of the pre release hype (not from AMD themselves) would have suggested, but it does offer comparative performance to the Nvidia top tier cards.

Still, I am baffled by the decision to go with HDMI 1.4a

I would add up also something else. Even you ask AMD representative about bad mantle performance in BF 4, always got the same answer which is : it has been fixed, even it cannot been fixed(each and every driver update note). All i am asking is, be natural and honest. We do not need false promises because we got enough in the Attic filled with.

Tbh, the fury has only been out for a few days. Sure launch results are similair to a bog standard ti. Wait for better drivers, performance might get better. It is still early to tell and get the full picture.

That looks delicious!

I'm waiting to see AMDMATTS 4k Fury performance in GTAV and Arkham Knight! :D

If it does well in those I might consider the upgrade.. as of now I'm holding off till next year it seems lol.
