Well just thought i'd update everyone on my Evolution DSL experience.
And the result.. as many expected.. was **** poor. :p

It's been a week now with Newsgroup access at 0k/s.. They claim it's a technical fault, but my guess is they got flooded with high bandwidth users and pushed the panic button to close down NNTP traffic. But even with that in place download speeds haven't gone past 200k/s either, and the connection seems to drop a couple of times a day.
The tech support is non-existant, although when I emailed this morning to ask for a MAC code they got back pretty quickly. Didn't ask why I was leaving though.

So next up i'll be heading to Nildram. People are reporting excellent newsgroup speeds, and with a 1 month contract I can always swap again :D
On reflection is was worth the risk, but in future i'll play a bit more safe I think.

Can i ask, roughly how you asked for your MAC code?....was it just straight out, no explanation or did you basically say 'your service sucks and i want out"..?

Because my 2nd payment is due on the 19th of May, and as it stands now, they aint getting another penny out of me, and i too think its best to move.

Well I haven't got the code yet..
I emailed yesterday to ask how soon I could get one, and they said it would take 2 working days.

So I emailed again this morning to ask for a MAC code asap. Will update you if/when I get one! :)

You're talking about Eclipse Evolution packages, they're talking about a company called EvolutionDSL.

I knew it'd be too good to be true, £24.99 unlimited MaxDSL is totally unsustainable and all the leechers started moving over in their droves.

Oh. Sorry about that.

I can recommend Eclipse though. I was previously with BT, and the first day I was migrated I was able to download at 600kb/s with no ups or downs, and for only 14.99 a month.

Now I really have jinxed myself :D

my eclipse evo 4 maxdsl is pretty crap. I got upgraded over a week a go and have gone from a connection that was rock solid at 2mbit to one that doesn't even manage 512kbs speeds whilst synced at 8mbit with a SNR which is still in double figures.

Needless to say they will be getting a call the minute the supposed 10 day 'training' period is over

Every ISP offering maxdsl is having the same problem, give it till the 13th May thats when BT is meant to have a fix out for it.

No point blaming ISPs yet as its not there problem its BT.

i'm hoping that you are right on that, the evidence isn't great though as using the BT test login i get speedtest results around the 6.1mbps mark, i.e. more than 10x that i get on eclipse.

I've been an eclipse customer for nearly 4 years now, i may, however, have to review that if things don't resolve themselves in the coming months

If it's high with the BT Speedtest, then your problem isn't the BRAS issue but some kind of congestion at the ISP end (though I'd bet you'll get the "wait till your 10 days is gone" anyway).

I'll give eclipse some time to sort it out, as with launching their FUP based traffic shaping and having MaxDSL to sort out there are bound to be a few teething troubles.

It's not as if any ISP has got things exactly as they would like them with the max products, so i wouldn't know who to leave for anyway

its also only certain news servers too.
my newshostings doesnt work, but astraweb and usenetserver work fine. (although speeds do vary a lot thoughout the day)
