The great Evolution DSL experiment is over!

Some more info from ADSLGuide.

There are apparently 3 people running the company, all under the age of 27.. They are completely uncontactable. No proper address to write to, no phone number, and no email response to any question that they can't be bothered to answer.
I've just received an email invoice for May's access, despite being told that if I wouldn't receive my next bill till May 11th.

The company is obviously an experiment for a few friends "in I.T.". They're out of their depth and going from ADSLGuide they won't have any users left in a couple of weeks. Assuming they give out MAC codes that is.
Personally i'm ringing up my credit card company to say I want a block put on anymore payments to Evolution, i'll then write to their made-up address and put it in writing.

So glad ive waited i new no phone number would turn out dodgy. :)

On the other hand Ace Internet getting good feedback been around for 8 years and seems a lot of people pleased.

Also a guy from there on Adslguide helping out £35 up to 8mb unlimited and they are contactable by phone unlike Evolution. :)

well i got my MAC code from EvolutionDSL today, so will be moving shortly. think ill be going back to f2s but not 100% sure on that yet. will do some more research after my exam tomorrow.

Well your right about me not using news groups, and I've only had it since yesterday, but so far it seems good. At least its better than pipex, anyway.

i'm really not to bothered, there really is no big deal here for me, if it turns out bad I simply walk away to someone else, nothing to lose tbh. :)

what the hell are news groups anyway? what do they do?

It's like a filesharing thing I think. My friend uses it but I've never used it. Hope it turns out OK for you with Evolution.

Cheers mate, yeah so do I, so far so good. I have always used bit torrent myself for any filesharing, and its great.

Cant really say Im that happy about my evolution max today, running some tests seems poor and downloads are poor too...

245.70 Kbps
which is around 30.71 KB/s
including overheads
Your connection is performing very poorly (3% efficiency) for an 8 Mbps service.

my speeds are all over the place with evolution, even when im surfing it is sometimes slow. ive got my MAC code, so just have to decide where to move. any suggestions? want about 50gb cap.

I just hope it sorts its self out, I know there is a 12 day period for this to happen. When I saw the icon on my taskbar saying connected at 8.1mbs I thought that was it, but it seems Im not getting anything better than my old pipex 2mb connection.

I just got connected this morning and I have to admit the speed seems OK so far..

4.67 Mbps

which means you can download at 597.66 KB/sec. from our servers

Now this is worrying, I read the other thread about the iffy evolution speeds. The other night the speeds were low, so I reconnected and then they were back up to full. I am still on the 2mb package as Kidderminster hasn't been upgraded yet.

Reading the threads on adslguide was an eye opener and I now have my eye firmly fixed on whats going on. All is well but if it all goes bad, nildram does look tempting 50gb cap during the day and I can wait to download large files overnight :)

edit:- zhuanai, could you define "our servers" for me? where were you getting the transfer rates from? Thanks

Christ mate thats awful. I thought mine was bad. :(
This is mine this morning using the same test.. http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=11463036998367933598
Zirax are you on evolutiondsl too?

Yep I am on evolution. I will do another test in a minute (downloading oracle 10.2), but the connection is struggling this morning with speeds varying all over the place. This is the first time i've had chance to have a look at the connection at the weekend, normally in the evenings the speed is fine.

Check this out...

test.php

Try these test and see what you get.. on the first I cant get above 30k a sec and the second speaks for itself above, I hope getting a mac code aint difficult, maybe I should have joined Nildram.

http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest.php

On the zen test the speed first dropped down to about 130k/sec and is now sitting at about 180k/sec sustained.

testresult.php

On this test i'm getting around 1.5Mb speeds, which isn't great. I just ran the test again to check this

So although its working, the speed is rather random.

Well i've just had an email saying I should get my MAC code in a couple of working days. Can't come soon enough! Then i'm off to Nildram.

The owner of Evolution has been on ADSL Guide trying to explain the terrible service. Get this:

8MBit/sec with (say) 5% overheads is about 970k/sec. Multiply that up 86400 (number of seconds in 24 hours) and I'd say 82GB. At 50:1 I'd expect a 50th share of this which works out at 1.6GB
So his belief is that since we're all on 50:1 contention, we can only expect to get full 8Mbit for 1/50th of the time, or around 1.6GB a day. Anything more than that is a bonus apparently.

If that's how the guy thinks ADSL contention works for everyone, then it explains a lot.
