The great Evolution DSL experiment is over!

The owner of Evolution has been on ADSL Guide trying to explain the terrible service. Get this:

So his belief is that since we're all on 50:1 contention, we can only expect to get full 8Mbit for 1/50th of the time, or around 1.6GB a day. Anything more than that is a bonus apparently.

If that's how the guy thinks ADSL contention works for everyone, then it explains a lot.

Oh dear god  Thats a very... erm special view on how internet connections work.

Jimbo, I have been reading about ace internet and I am tempted. However at the moment i'm taking adslguide with a pinch of salt. Just the other week they were raving about evolution with regular contact with one of the directors on the forum. Although ace have been around for a while, their responses on adslguide on how they will handle maxadsl have been rather unconvincing.

Ace Internet, whilst a bit more expensive than others, is completely unrestricted - no caps or limits whatsoever. They are apparently quite good and have been around for about 10 years.

Yeah agreed mate, I went for Evolution becuase of the positive noises from there, once bitten twice shy I guess. Maybe I should have gone for Nildram in the first place..

http://www.nildram.net/

That was my first thought after moving from Pipex, a lot of people on overclockers say they are good. This is a headache tbh.

Thank god we arent tied up on 12 month contracts.

just signed up at nildram, hope things are much better there! (only down side so far is the lack of static ip - i wasnt going to pay £3pm for one!)

Just spotted an interesting post on adslguide. So it seems that the positive messages about ace are purely about 2mb connections. They are all being regraded in a few days, so it will be interesting to see the effects.

Haven't seen any of the staff saying anything of the sort (other than the obvious, that the Enta staff are around and have been for a long time) - and posts from random users on a forum always deserve a monster load of salt.

Can't say I'd touch Ace either, they're no more viable (unless their prices have gained a few 0s since I last looked).

ive just checked my order with nildram and at the moment it says migration on the 15th may, 10 working days from now. The problem is, my EvolutionDSL billing date is the 12th. ive emailed nildram ([email protected] and [email protected] - didnt know where to send it) asking if they can bring the migration date forward. are they likly to be able to do so?

Not really - they have to put the order in with BT and given how busy BT are at the moment and are being generally slow, migrations will take their full time I should think. My migration is on the 10th and my billing on the 28th so I'll only lose half a month thankfully.

No, once the order has been submitted to BT, your MAC will be used and you'll have to get a new one, which could be fun. I don't know why Nildram place orders in the first place with such long lead times, migrations can be done in as little as 24 hours

the order hasnt been placed with BT yet, so i guess there is still hope. still i think even if i do have to fork out another £25 to evo its prob worth it just to move away!

Could be worth a try I guess, but I don't think Nildram can override their systems.

Damn stupid of them to just place the order with a long migration date!

you guys are lucky, so far my connection has dropped about 50 times over the last 2 days, 7 times today so far...its unusable

Evolution DSL = Cowboy ISP, avoid at ALL COSTS.

MAC code requested yesterday, god knows when i'll get...sodding bank holidays.

Once i get it (if?)..im going back to a standard 1mbit connection, this ADSL MAX is just crap, not worth the hassle.

looks like my only option for truly fast broadband in my house is NTL's so called 10mbit which i could get.

Well I dont know if Im being a bit hasty, I have only been connected since Wednesday, but all the negativaty has convinced me I have made a mistake in choosing evolution DSL.

Anyway I have sent them an email with Mac Code Request in the subject and radius user name etc. Saying...

Please can you send me my Mac code.

I am not happy about the awful download speeds you provide.

Please send asap.

Thank you.

I'll try Nildram when I get it.

What a waste of £25 quid. :(

Just been unable to get online for the last half hour as it said it was connected, but nothing was downloading and no pages where being displayed.
