The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

Yup. But it will down clock 13 mhz at roughly 67. Then another 13 at 78 people say.

I've not seen my temps above 75 yet. Lots are sighting thus "feature".

You not noticed it setter? Maybe not all cards are equal but my googling suggests its a bios feature which can be altered by flashing.

Mine clocks down to 1547 after 67c too, yet to have it above 70c since that's the target the fan ends up settling for. Tempted to slightly alter the fan curve so it never clocks down.

What does 1-1 profile mean. Literally 70c = 70%?

My fan has to run at 92% to keep the temps at 65 in pcars.

Also how do you do a custom profile and keep the fans off at below say 50c.

What is the MSI default temp for turning fan on off.

I see what you mean. Do they touch when you spin them? Or can you pop them into place?
If not, I'd just power it up. I'm sure they would be fine.

I popped it into the system. Instant coil whine, it's clearly a return.

RMA time. :(

This has put me right off the G1 Gigabyte.

What's considered the best card in terms of silence, warranty and has the ability to overclock with the best of them?

Ah man, that sucks :(

The Msi 6G is the next one for after market cards. A lot quieter and the OC ability is about the same, or a little less. Looks nicer in my opinion too.

still loving my MSI 6g

No coil whine.
runs 65c or lower in most games.
Quietest thing in my PC now.

Since swapping out my 280x for the 980TI I've noticed my psu fan has a slight noise like the bearings are worn a bit.

I first I thought it was slight coil whine from the card but it's definitely the psu fan making a high pitched whirl like slight metal on metal contact for about half the revolution of the fan.

never even noticed with my old card

Msi 6g.

Just wish I could have a custom fan profile along with the auto on and off of the fans.

Surely you can just set the fan to run at 0% until the card gets to say 50c?

Yup. Problem is there is no buffer. So fans just start yo yo ing. The built in config seems to have smarts beyond what afterburner can do.

Anyway why advertise this festure . can eveyone turn their fans off via MSI afterburner pretty much regardless of card.

Have to say, massively impressed with the 980ti in SLI, kicking up Crysis 3 @ 4k max settings & a smooth 60fps+ constant.

It looks & plays like a dream.

With x2 Reference cards they run at 68c with a 1-1 fan profile (somewhat aggressive, but with some ingame noise they are pretty easy to ignore - low pitched so no massive problem). I like a nice gradual temp increase, seems to keep the cards much cooler ingame for the high usage peaks. I've even had some games when FPS capped @ 4k downclock to 1000mhz for falling below 50% usage :p:p:p, aside from a few AAA games many seem to run fine without boosting & the cards are totally silent.

Really can't wait to get these babies under water, should be able to push them to a stable 1550 as atm it's power & reduced voltage due to temps hitting me.

One question, with a full custom loop does that mean your cards have more power for graphics?, the GPU fan seems to use some of the cards power (less stable at 100% fan that 90% ive found)?.

Like my MSI 6G - really quiet compared to my old 7970 crossfire setup (and that was with custom air coolers), no coil whine that I have noticed and GPUz showed that max speed of gpu was 1389 or so when playing GTAIV earlier, with no tweaking and simply in OC mode.

Is the MSI 6G a 2 slot card or a 2.5 (and thus 3) slot card? I need a thin-ish card for my current mobo else it goes over the SATA slots.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to return mine and part exchange it for another brand, because I cannot really be bothered going through a refund and all that. If not, I'll just go through G1's until I get one without coil whine I guess.

2slot.

There should be a sticky that just says MSI G6 is the quietest 980ti and not far off the fastest. Its the best one out there IMO. Fans are barely audible at 70%

I'm not taking another chance on it. These cards should be B grade, they shouldn't be sending out 2nd hand returns at £600 a pop. It's just wasting everyone's time IMO.

Cheers, there's too many votes to be ignoring this one!

Mine was brand new, I can't fault that, but the coil whine is very annoying.

My problem is no spare GPU so I'm going to have to buy something to get me by for the possible weeks I'll be without a card.
