The GTX 980 Ti owners thread.

I'm surprised there's not more talk about the Palit Super Jetstream in here. It's a similar layout to the MSI Gaming and is pretty well clocked, but it's one of the cheapest custom-cooled cards out there.

I'm not sure about >£500 for a GPU yet, but if I was that'd be my pick I think.

Just popping by to say hi really!

Kinda disappointed I bought my 980Ti a day before the MGS code could be backdated to, I guess I'm stuck with an unused Batman code.

You could see your unused Batman code, then use the money to buy an unused MGS code (plus a couple quid's difference, if needed).

Or you code just advertise for a straight swap, if you like things easy :D

Looking through some reviews of 980ti's and it really bamboozles me how some sites do their acoustics testing. A while ago anything 40db or under was considered brilliant now it seems that sites like techpowerup are on the whinge about anything that's not in the mid 30db range.

Really starting to wonder if sites should bother with acoustics testing as their results more often than not totally contradict one another. I seen a video review of the zotac amp edition and the reviewer said that the card was so quiet under load he had to get up and check that the fans were spinning. Whereas techpowerup basically said that the amp edition was only slightly less loud than the reference cooler.

Quote from techpowerup on the zotac amp card:

Idle fan noise is fantastic as the card completely turns its fans off in idle, media playback, and light gaming (up to 60°C). Full-on gaming will have the card reach 41 dBA, which is just a tiny bit quieter than the NVIDIA reference design, but much noisier than I had hoped for

Quote from techpowerup on the msi 6g which is supposedly one of the quietest ti's:

Idle fan noise is fantastic as the card completely turns its fans off in idle, media playback, and light gaming (up to 57°C). Full-on gaming will have the card reach 37 dBA, which is much noisier than I had hoped for. At 35 dBA, the EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC+ is definitely quieter. Back when we tested the MSI GTX 780 Ti Gaming, the card only produced 30 dBA under load while consuming about as much power as the GTX 980 Ti Gaming, so I see no reason why such noise levels shouldn't be possible with the GTX 980 Ti, too.

WTF, 37db is now loud all of a sudden? His results on db levels also don't tally with most other sites, we know its all down to testing methods but i really do wonder why they bother to do it if the reviews of the same card on sites constantly contradict each other.

His test system apparently is passively cooled with one side panel open so its an odd kind of setup in that regard.

Agreed. Often the distances involved are just stupidly close as well.

Noise in an open air system will also be different to noise from within a case- certain frequencies travelling differently and so on.

Here's my Corsair 900D complete with Zotac Amp Extremes, Kraken G10s and Corsair H55 AIOs. Im using a push pull config with 2 Corsair SP120s on each GPU Rad.
I've not done any benchmarking yet but 30 mins on GTA5 in 4K with everything maxed saw no more than about 55c on the hottest card with a clock of 1512.

I wasn't aware the Batman code was worth anything, due to how bad the game is. I don't have access to the member's market either.

This, really. I just go by Youtube videos of the card rather than written reviews. I personally wouldn't know the difference between 35dB and 50dB when it's written... There is no reference really, everyone's case is going to be different.

Why are the soundcard and the graphics card practically touching each other, with the rest of the expansion slots empty? Or am I looking at it wrong?

Doesn't matter if they are close. It's done this way as the exhaust airflow on the underside of the G10 won't be blocked. I'll be replacing the fan on that anyway with a 92mm Noctua Redux. ;)

Since 3 of you have now mentioned it I've moved the soundcard lol

Also the GPU was sagging because I forgot to add the thumb screws to the pcie bracket :o, although I would love that custom bracket I mentioned earlier in this thread.

If Kaap gets time can he change to this pic? ;)

Looks a lot better.

Toss up for me between the zotac amp on offer at the mo or the msi gaming, was gonna go for the strix but not at that markup.

3 90mm fans vs 2 100mm fans. hmm

finally got the wc loop done and love it :).

so far after about 16 hours of leak testing and bleeding all has been fine. GPU'S so far have reached a maximum of 32c on valley benchmark. Will get a few pics up in the next few days as i still have to install LED's and sort some cables out. But so far love it.

Hmmm, batman crashing at 1500... Don't know if game or oc.

Easy enough to find out I guess, but I want 1500...

Probably the OC.

I have similar issues with some games.

I've just backed off to 1441 and not had a crash in days and days in any games.

Machine has been on 18x7 looping and gaming.

Get up to 1475+ and pcars crashes..tr3 had a single crash.

I've locked it in and given up trying anything else. I'll have another come crimbo so I'll likely clock them both at a cool 1400 anyway.

Can you keep the backplate - VRM heatsink?

The Zotac looks to be the best value but is a little big for my case (Fractal Define R3). I asked before, but does anyone here have experience of the Palit Super Jetstream? It looks like a budget MSI Gaming to me (that's my other big candidate, being shorter than most custom-cooled cards).

There isn't such a thing as a bad 980Ti. Buy any of them and you're guaranteed a great card.

A review I read of the Palit gave it a great write up.

Can you keep the backplate - VRM heatsink?

Yes by taking the advise from the MSI owners club on OCN. In order to keep the backplate on the only thing I didn't install were the washers and two foam pads. VRM heatsinks weren't a problem clearance wise as they are slim. The Inno3D has much larger ones which will be problematic.
