I will definitely be putting a block on it. I have a huge loop at the moment so may as well use it. I probably won't even overclock and if I did it wouldn't be for a while I just don't want to end up having a 480 and 360 rads cooling cpu only and i'm not going to the effort of removing the loop and downsizing the case.

If you aren't planning to overclock then by all means get the SC+ - It'll boost higher than the reference ones meaning you have less reason to overclock.

It's not too expensive the last I checked either, so you wouldn't be saving much by opting for the reference anyway.

Just got my 980Ti SC+ ACX setup in a shiny (or not so shiny) Define R5 Blackout along with a PG279Q to make sure it gets to stretch it's legs.

(Apologies for the potatoish pics, my OPO doesn't seem to like low light very much, but I hate flash.)

I'm really tempted to buy a 980Ti, but I know I should use the money for something else/save

But looking at the deals OCUK have at the minute is really tempting.

IF I were to buy one, I'd like it to be quiet, and from what I can remember the MSI cards are the quietest?

But how are they for performance?

The ones I'm looking at are:

MSI Gaming

EVGA Classified

EVGA Superclocked+ ACX

ASUS OC Strix

Not sure what the difference is between the EVGA's, also is the Hydro Copper worth the extra money?

Any other brands people can recommend?

Ideally I wanna stay away from Zotac and Gigabyte *Gigabyte seem a bit loud on load*

I just ordered the G1 Gaming 980 ti - after a considerable amount of time justifying the guilty purchase.. ahh what a relief to no longer having to deal with the decision fatigue..

Here's hoping that I get a good one..

So my Msi arrived, 70,4 Asic, which is OK. No coil whine, silent cooler, whatever we know that.
But it gets very hot compared to the G1. I think I'll get G10+H55 as soon as possible.

Will change TIM to see how much I gain in a few minutes.

EVGA's cards are solid cheap choices, especially the SC+ at £530 at the moment - I'm not even sure on the difference between the SC+ and the Classified so I won't mention it. You also get their well renowned CS which I think everyone admits is the best going - Also the warranty follows the card with EVGA, rather than just sticking with the owner so it helps its resale value stay high.

I have a Strix at the moment and whilst I like it, I wouldn't say it's worth the £40-50 over a G1 Gaming (which is an absolute beast of a card, but you have a more-than-average chance of coil whine), or the SC+ for that matter.

As for the Hybrid cards, they're cool and quiet, so if those are your main concerns the EVGA or Inno3D hybrids are also great choices. Inno3D's warranty service is located in China though, so if you do get a problem with the card be prepared for long waits and expensive postage.

Regarding the 2 EVGA cards: I have the Superclocked+ ACX2.0+. The + after the Superclocked indicates that it comes with a backplate, and all the 900 series ACX coolers are ACX2.0+ meaning they have heatpipes and memory cooling and better bearings on the fans.

The only difference with the classified is the guaranteed +90mhz extra core overclock 1100 to 1190 out the box, both cards have the same power 6+8 pin connectors and the same stock memory speeds. Both come with the same free game.

[Edit] for me up to 60% fan speed is not noisy (and the rest of my case is pretty quiet) so if you need to be really quiet I guess you can set up a custom fan profile and thermal throttle to keep it quiet like I do. At stock factory overclock mine does not get above 75c at 60% fan but with the extra core boost on EVGA Precision I get above 80c and have to throttle or let the fan get louder

Use Unigine heaven, it's less kind to unstable overclocks.
Afterwards use The Witcher 3, perfect to test stability.

Just received the card today, barely ran for half an hour!
Will get G10+H55 soon. Witcher 3 @ 1450/8000 gets too hot regardless of the paste.

I asked this a while ago and got an answer from someone - But it doesn't seem to be holding true. Is it possible for me to assign a custom fan curve to my GPU without having to open MSI Afterburner, Precision, or anything like that?

I hate having icons in my tray and I try to keep them at a minimum, but that proves difficult with some apps
