The Happy thread - Positive posts only :-)

I kind of 1/4 ticked off a desire of mine yesterday. I've always wanted to see the Californian Redwood state park and I still do. Though yesterday was the first time I ever realised we had them in Bristol! So we went on a nice dog walk to go and see the redwoods we have nearby. They're babies at only 150 years old but they're already remarkably tall compared to our native trees but it's made me want to see them even more because these are big as is so I can only imagine how the 500-1000+ year old ones are looking.

My partner is about 5'1 on a good day but it's still a pretty big tree

Sounds good. What are you looking to get up to?
As little as possible. I know hes into his activities like jet skiing and off roading, I am not (might join him on the off road thing as it 2 seater, I don't drive), BUT I intend to do the telescope star gazing thing at night as some point, weather permitting. All inclusive hotel, so food and beer will flow freely. Got a few nights out planned, he 'smokes' the stuff so no doubt will join him there on one occasion :D

I do a fair bit of GCSE/A level maths tutoring.

A yr11 student this evening got their first ever 4 on a set of GCSE past papers. They were close to tears when I told them.

This is a student who does not find maths easy but works really hard. After months of 2s and 3s they get a pass.

Put a huge smile on my face on the way home.

People write off teenagers. I reckon "my" generation simply have no idea of the struggles they have to deal with.

Went to Alton Towers yesterday. Wife, me and my 3 kids. Managed to get my middle child (7yo) to go on a couple of coasters. We normally go to Gullivers in Rotherham or Matlock. Middle kid used to refuse to go on anything apart from the mini small roller coaster at Gullivers. However, after walking towards the runaway train, we saw Wickerman. I told him, hey, it just a bigger Mine train coaster, made of wood. Spent a few minutes persuading him to try it out. Telling him it didn't go upside down etc. So we queued, it was a 40 min queue, which I think is max for my kid, even me to be honest. During the 40 mins I was explaining to him about the wooden supports and how strong they are. Giving him examples of strong wood, such as the fence in the queue line and metal etc. Man infront of us in the queue, turned and said the same thing, I think he worked in some sort of construction going by our chat.

Anyway, we finally got into the station. I have never been on Wickerman so know idea what to expect. Lad was a bit scared, went all dark, loud scary music/effects and video. I thought we would get to the train and he would refuse, but he sat down instantly. Pulled the bar down, reassured him. Off we went.

I was keeping an eye on him best I could during the ride. Once we got off, he was unsure if he liked it. But after a toilet break I asked, him, tell me truthfully, did you like it.

He loved it. Just not the scary sound effects and dark room. Which is understandable.

We were going to head back to Ceebeebees (? lol) land for the younger lad to go on something but they had a 30 min wait for Octonaughts ride, so I told the wife we would go to Thirtheen as middle could ride that too. He wanted to try it out. Again, I have never been on it either. I knew abouth the 'drop' but didn't tell him. Have to say the first drop after the chain lift was awesome, never felt so much air in a coaster, he was loving it. Got to the 'drop' drop, took us both by surprise, went backwards, (didnt know about that). When we stopped at station he asked to go back on it. Wish we could matey, but not waiting another 40 mins.

in comparison, Oblivion had a 5min wait time most of the day. If only he was 12cm taller.

So proud of him.

yeah I was really happy for him. We are going on Thursday again. We have the Merlin passes, we was not planning to go yesterday but a friend was going and we met up with them lot. Last minute thing. I think Thursday, we may just split up, I will go with middle child, and wifey goes with young one and eldest (who didn't go an anything apart from spinning barrels in pirate area) which is a shame as he over 1.4m and can ride everything. Pretty sure he will like them once he rides one but as hes nurodivergent he has sensory needs and coaster this fats might not ideal for him. Never know though until he tries one. Hes been on the runaway train before but even refused that yesterday.

I've been working in IT support at a local company for a year now after a year off work with depression and anxiety. The last couple of weeks the dreaded "R word" has been floating around the office so I was bricking it about being the last in first out guy. Our finance director grabbed me for a chat Friday morning and said that I add too much value to the company for them to consider me for redundacy, which left me not only stunned but feeling about a good as I've felt about myself for years :D
