The i7 has landed for pre-order.

I think cos its still very new am gonna wait a good few weeks afterwards, theres foxconns lovely X58 board shown here:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=203350

And its not as fancy as the Asus board but its apparantly scaled down so that its a lot cheaper which I think at this point is a good thing.

Its the price of these memory kits which is adding on the silly prices as well, £270 for 3gig DDR3....6gig DDR3 @ £500

Rather save a small fortune and get even 2x2gig DDR3 sticks for £146 or even the same fancy Cellshock ram 2x1gig DDR3 1500 for £150 quid...

If the Foxconn mobo is indeed cheaper perhaps £150-200.

Its a doable PC build just depends on who jumps all over it, am sure Abit/gigabyte and all the memory manufacturers will roll out there new line up so prices will drop hopefully by Mid-late November or early December/Xmas its a doable build !

Scratching my head here over this memory debate. So certain ddr3 cant be used as their voltages are too high? And whats the deal with the six slots, do we have to have either 3 or 6 gig installed?

I think AMD could really make a come back here. From what I understand these are not much of a boost over the current gen processors. Much like what happened with Nvidia, AMD could sneak a blow in here. We could certainly use some competition in the CPU segment again.

There are some large gains, just not with games (yet - at least).

Nehalem is about improving HPC, Database and virtualization performance, much less about gaming performance. Maybe this will change once games get some heavy physics threads, but not right away.

We sure could but I just feel with AMD there still playing catch up, am sure there next chip will have overtaken the Core2duo/Quad lineup completely but then too catch up with Intel's next chip.....

Heres hoping regardless for an AMD comeback !

Silly question but the Extreme Edition in the US are now around £575 + whatever import duty you have to pay when it arrives so why is it UK £822 right now!!

I guess you are taking that from the $999 price quoted on many sites. That is th price that american retails will buy it in for. This is arround £575 as you say, but you have to include in the uk price, VAT, Import costs (Shipping etc) and retailers margin. The £575 +VAT is just under £700 alone. So £822 isnt bad concidering this is the latest tech

Strong words indeed.

Lets hope Deneb performs ;)

LOL, I think I will just wait for the price drops. I am hoping they are simply so expensive because they are on pre order, I tend to time my computer upgrades with graphics card updates rather than CPU as it makes more difference. So hopefully by the time a new gpu is out the prices will be lower.

I think P45 has shown the benefit of waiting for a platform to mature before jumping in. Hell, I haven't even switched to Vista yet.

I'll go one better...I haven't even gone to Intel yet, been planning on it for ever now...lol. 5000+ still running strong.

+ I'm at uni = debt. (best excuse ever imo)

Yeah what gives Gibbo? Have you had your wrists smacked or have you just used up all your pre-ordered stock?

Latest rumour is that the I7-920 is being delayed as Intel only want to launch with the 2 most expensive CPU parts to run down some of their existing stock so the 920 is being held back until next year.

Makes sense as 920 will not be much quicker than an overclocked Yorkfield and very little software takes advantage of it anyway.

Ballmer was slating Intel the other day for not improving their existing CPU line performance but launching a new platform every 3 years which is obviously done more for profit than anything else as they get to sell the mobo chipsets as well as the CPU.
