The i7 has landed for pre-order.

How big is the chip?
Are we all going to need new heatsinks/waterblocks gibbo?

Its big.

Ive seen some companies that heatsinks bases are big enough and going to make different sized brackets so you can use s775 ones, but expect a whole new influx of heatsinks for them when they come out. The newer ones will be more suited aswell.

The prices are ridiculous. £850 for an extreme i7 is a joke, obviously the lack of competition has reverted Intel back to its old ways already. Come AMD where are ya! :)

I am sure Overclockers had to take down the motherboards & CPU's due to NDA. I've read elsewhere they are still under strict NDA.

Tut tut OcUK, I bet Intel will be fuming, you might not get first stock now. :p

Happy hard launch Halloween everyone lol.

lol was gonna say Ocuk I think jumped the gun by at least 4 weeks anyhow... They were certainly quick too take that down !

At least we now know its due end of this month which feels ages away anyhow 4 Fridays away !

the FX53/55/57 where about the £560 mark, give or take a smidge depending on where you did your buying.

Correct. The prices now are STUPID. Really annoys me that you pay 3/4 times the price for a 5/10% faster CPU that you can easily beat when overclocking.

I'm certain I saw the top-end AMD FX chips over £1000 a few years ago. The QX9775 is over £1K and the QX9770 just under.

You can't compare an overclocked chip with a non-overclocked one. The deciding factor will be whether or not you can easily beat an overclocked 775 chip with an overclocked i7 chip.

well, i had 2 FX53's, 2 FX55's and an FX57 and i never payed over £560 for any of them. so i dunno who was charging over a grand for FX chips, certainly wasn't any of the shops i was buying from. :p

Comparing clocked to non-clocked processors is like comparing an apple to an orange.

Run everything at "stock" and then see what benefits you are getting from the new CPU.
Remember that the majority of CPU's will not be overclocked.
Despite the vocal "overclockers" etc the majority of chips will make their way into home PC's and work machines where there won't be any overclocking going on.
