• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

The i7 has landed for pre-order.

YES, I read but time will tell and if that info is official I will go by that rather than your info. :)

Since when did RAM Voltages affect CPU Voltages previously ?. ;)

Hi there

Go by what you want but I know what the test rig I have is doing and you can see those very results here:-

So care to explain that then?

If 2.0v according to these other sources would kill the CPU then how come my CPU is not dead, care to explain?

Would seem the rig I have is not suffering from these problems unless the damage takes a long time but I've been upto 2.15v which supposedly anything over 2.00v would fry one, well mine is fine.

I can only comment on what its doing and for me I have had no issues with memory I have used both Cellshock and Kingston memory in the board without issue.

Slick, that DVD-writer is total overkill, remove it and it's much more reasonable ;)

Gibbo: Hopefully people will listen to you eventually ;) Seems there are two stories here:
1) Early press releases from motherboard manufacturers say that the CPU and Memory voltages are linked, hence DDR3 for i7 will need to be low voltage or it will kill the CPU.
2) Gibbo has a system, and the voltages are decoupled. And has proved it quite readily.

Personally, I think the voltage constraint was an early issue, that looks like it has been ironed out since then. Gibbo, are you able to confirm which motherboard (or at least which make) it is?

Hmm, the likes of intel may start cuting there profits in light of the economic down turn. If people arent buying them the price will fall. I myself will probably wait until the dieshrink which I believe is happening sometime in 2009. 32nm I think.

Less ofcourse my mrs says go on go on xD

Ahh I can see pigs fly!

When are the next gen graphics out?

If a core 2 @ 3.2 bottlenecks 2 4870's then it isnt gonna be much use in games until the new cards?

The site = fail.

Come on now I want to see some hardware pr0nz.

EDIT: &^%$ me, that's expensive!!! Looks like it's gonna cost me over £700 to upgrade to i7!!! I think it'll have to wait a while :(

£260 for a CPU is borderline acceptable, but £250 for a mediocre mobo is taking the mickey. I'll be waiting until I can get a mobo for less than £100, with the added bonus that this memory voltage question will be sorted out.

Nehalem is a radically new design for Intel: for the first time, the CPU is a 'native' quad-core CPU, where all four cores sit on the same piece of silicon. With its Core 2 CPUs, Intel used two dual-Core dies to create a quad-core chip, this translates into better performance.

Can we get this edited? It's not clear what the 'this' is referring to, and since it comes immediately after the information about Core 2, it sounds like the Core 2 design is faster!

I am definitely leaving it until theres a sub £130 good quality board. If that takes til next june so be it.
