The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Stupid country.

If you were buying a trainer now then, would you still get the Vortex or something else?

I'd buy direct drive.

I like my Vortex but I've really got into the racing on Zwift and the lag of the Vortex is sometimes a bit annoying.

Outside of races the lag doesn't bother me, but in a race you don't need it, it's off putting.

Tacx might even fix it at some point - I'm not even sure I'm on the latest firmware.

Also as a few of us have found out the inbuilt power meter overreads, although it's not affected me that much tbh it is possibly a consideration if you're big into your ride data.

I was debating that as Cycle Republic have £75 off over £500 so the Flux is around £550ish

Can i use that with a mountain bike frame and if i bought the cassette would it be transferable to a road bike?

Someone else would have to help you with those questions, I'm not up on the Flux specs.

Also cassette compatibility road to mtb and vice versa = complex+++

Right think i'm settled.

Anyone want to share a British Cycles code? :D

Looks like i can join up as a "fan" membership which would be financially worthwhile but i'm not sure i'd actually use any of their benefits other than discounts.

Pretty much all what I've done with my membership in the last 4 years lol ;)

Got my Flux for £630 from CRC then BC discounted it so around £572 as I paid for faster delivery.

Two years ago I wouldn't have been able to justify that price, we had quite a mild winter and I only rode my Vortex a handful of times, this winter has been a different story!

Well i think i've decided on either the Cycleops Magnus or the Kickr Snap. The Snap seems the better unit but is also around £100 more expensive and from reading the reviews i'm not sure it's worth such a big extra.

Decided that since i'm going to be starting with a mountain bike i'm likely to be better off with the wheel on system.

Also that a no to letting me use your discount? :p

I think you may have to wait, but it's not long, it's just *there* on your BC account when you login.

I've used mine for this month!

Right, i ended up ordering the Kickr Snap, Evans Cycles had an ex-demo model for £422.50 and then £10 off for doing click and collect. Plus they offer 7% through topcashback which is around £30 so overall it's about £385.

I reckon i could probably sell it without losing out if i ended up not using it much.

That's a great price, they're one of the most well regarded wheel-on trainers. Wahoo are a fantastic company (TICKR & ELEMNT owner)!

I have as strange issue whenever I do a workout on Zwift.
When my HR approaches max rate my Tickr HR monitor drops out and the picture on my TV slowly gets more and more fuzzy  when I stop the workout my HR monitor comes back and the TV returns to normal.

This only happens when I use Workout mode

The blur effect is intentional - it's simulated tunnel vision because of the high HR.

I've seen your HR data looking dodgy for a week or two - batteries on the way out? Other devices interfering with signal maybe?

Ever since Christmas and an update that came out at that time, iOS app has crashed loads for me on an iPad Pro. I lost an hours ride again yesterday, no idea if it's a specific use case that causes it but when I hit Save to upload to Strava, it either immediately crashes to the iOS home screen, or just sits on saving forever and I can't do anything so have to force quit the app. Yesterday was the latter. 9/10 it doesn't even let me recover progress when I restart, will just say there was an error, or it recovers like 5 minutes of the ride. RAGE

So frustrating because I like to keep track with stats on Strava, especially as the weather is improving and I'll be cycling more regularly, and because if it's not on Strava, it didn't happen. I don't think you even get any fitness benefits from it if you're body knows it didn't go on Strava

I'm tempted to a cheap rig for the garage that will just be a Zwift box as it will be a lot more reliable and at least if it does crash, I still have access to the files.

Have you tried re-downloading the app to see if that solves it? When I move to the my new house I'm looking at picking up and Apple TV to run zwift.
