Yeah unfortunately they don't think like this, NGO's and public servants are always looking for more money to give to someone who has nothing to do with this country...

Always some one somewhere who needs the money you earned more than you do.

Sad isn't it, the state of this country.

You only need to look at our high streets and retail stores.. most of them are gone. Replaced by Vape and bubble tea shops one after another.

We are all socialist now, distributing other peoples earned wealth has never been tried a hundred times before, look at Venezuela, South Africa, actually most of the African continent, it quite obviously works really well.

There is always someone more needy than you, what is wrong with you? I'll just take your money and give it to someone i think more deserving and you will like it.

Yeah... it does indeed.
And You're right, not for this thread so i'll just stop here, other than saying the right build walls to keep people out, the left build walls to keep people in.

The 16 GB A770 is now on sale at a certain high street electrical store for £230 per r/IntelArc. @Gibbo, will you be matching this price?

If I were being optimistic I would suggest that this might be a clearing out of stock before the launch of Battlemage.

I was considering one of these as a more modern upgrade to a radeon 5700 non-XT. My main concern after reading some reviews is the high idle power usage. I understand that there is a fix that involves certain bios settings but that these aren't available on amd motherboards. I run an am4 system atm. Am I correct that in that case I would be stuck with the 40w idle consumption that the reviews highlight?

Unless it's a stop-gap I would not recommend one for gaming right now. Performance comparisons with the 5700 seem t to be scant, but the A770 seems to perform a little better than the RX 5700 XT. I think you'll want something better to actually notice a decent improvement, though you will gain XeSS. And Battlemage is due soon - I'm expecting September (no evidence, just a gut feeling) - and the high end of the RTX 50 series is also due late this year. If the mobile versions of Battlemage are anything to go by we'll see a 50% improvement which will put the B770 in 4070 Ti territory, maybe higher.

I understand that there is a fix that involves certain bios settings

I have not followed this issue.

You are right it probably won't be a huge upgrade but would be more vram and more modern but on the flip side I am aware of all the issues with arc and game compatibility. With the current price and selling my 5700 it probably wouldn't cost me much.

Recently new cards have been far too expensive and often not much of an upgrade. I can't see any of the upcoming being any cheaper.

Mate this thing is literally 2X as fast as your 5700 and has 50% more VRam.

From what I have read most people seem to recommend buying the 7800xt or now the gre instead so it is considerably more expensive.

You shouldn't listen to those people, something that is more expensive is better, well yes but do i need better and is it worth the extra money?

Right now the best value GPU is the 7900 GRE, that doesn't mean its the best GPU for everyone, if you have a sub £400 budget then its not for you.

The 7800 XT is £90 more expensive than the 7700 XT, what do you get for that, you get an extra 4 GB of VRam, 16 in total, and 15% higher performance, for an extra £90, does that seem worth it to you? for another 10% performance on top on the 7800 XT it will cost you another £40, now you're £130 above the 7700 XT for 25% more performance.

The 7700 XT will double your current performance and give you Ray Tracing and AV1 Encode / Decode and AI Machine Learning which aside from Stable Diffusion that you're probably not interested in ML based FSR 3.1 probably is of interest to you.

There is always a faster GPU, its also more expensive, the only question you should be asking your self is do i need it? Is it worth the extra money?

Wouldn't be the Arc thread, without Humbug peddling AMD. :D
If someone cared about ML at all, they should be buying something/anything, with more vram that wasn't following the ever decreasing memory bus trend.

The A770 is pretty great for some ML tasks, but limited with only 16gb vram. If Intel can get a decent chunk of vram on their next cards, then I'll be all over them.

humbug, Some good points. Looking at the prices again I think the 7700xt is a bit cheaper relative to the 7800 than at launch which shifts things a bit. When I got my 5700 the standard advice was to pay extra for the xt version but I don't think it has made a huge difference over the time I have had it.

It is interesting that on the a770 owners thread no one is recommending it:D

I would recommend the A770, but from a 5700 it's not always going to be a big enough upgrade for you.
The price drop that the UK saw means I would recommend it to many.

The thing is. This is the owners thread, I needn't recommend it to people who've already bought. :D

Yeah, thing is the A770 is not much better than the 5700.

To put that in some perspective.

A770 8GB: £275 At this point you don't want an 8GB card.
A770 16GB: £330.
RX 7700 XT: £380. this was £360 when i recommended it but its sold out now and gone up £20, a bunch people probably read this and thought "oh you're right" and..... there gone! Its a bloody good GPU for that money and they will fly off the shelves as people realise that.

The 5700 isn't on this slide but like you said there isn't a lot of difference between it and the 5700 XT

Isn't it down to 230 elsewhere? Why would anyone buy an Arc from here, when it's 100 more? :D
I paid under 200 for mine, and it's a great card for that price. Pretty sure you'd be better off posting about the 7700 in the 7700/7800 thread...
