The Intel Arc owners thread

Someone broke the embargo: B580 tested vs A750. Could be fake, of course.

TLDW: the B580 is modestly faster on average with the 1% lows often way faster (probably thanks to the extra VRAM).

Average of the 15 games tested:

1080p: 10.2% higher AVG, 8% higher 1% lows
1440p: 11.7% higher AVG, 13.8% higher 1% lows

1) Do these cards have decent frame gen technology ? (I'm assuming 4060 supports DLSS3 for frame generation ?)

2) Do they work flawlessly via thunderbolt as an EGPU ? (My current Nvidia card does without issues)

While I'm not the target audience for the new b500 series, my interest is rather peaked by intels offerings. The price is the driving factor here and also the driver package seems to be getting along in a steady phase. Never thought an intel offering could be interesting tbh. Would really be a big boon to the average joe who like a bit of gaming if battlemage turns out decent.

I'm seriously considering it - need to get a GPU for one of my Kid's for Christmas. Currently they have a 1660, and I'm looking around the £250 mark. So it's either this, a 4060 or a 6650XT.
Wimped out and went with a 4060 :D

Still keeping an eye on what happens with Arc though, as will likely be looking for another GPU (to replace a 2060 Super) next year

And there you have it. The card needs to be cheaper.
Not even sure it was that, it just didn't wow compared to the pretty bad competition.

It's the same price as a 4060 but only 10% faster, likely draws more power, less mature drivers, and probably doesn't have enough horsepower going forward for the 12Gb ram to matter.
It also requires rebar (which I'm not sure my son's computer has enabled, and it may still be running in pre UEFI mode so a bit of a faff to change and enable)

I also ruled out plenty of other cards before settling -
4060Ti was too much extra cash for only 20% more performance and no extra vram.
3060 12gb - slower than the 4060 in most sensible benchmarks and not much cheaper.
7600xt - has 16gb vram, but not enough performance to actually use it.
6650xt or 7600 - both slightly cheaper than 4060, but not cheap enough for the slightly lower performance.

Anything worth putting a 4060 in, would likely support rebar. We'll see when the reviews come out if the 4060 was the right choice.

I desperately need to repaste my A770 at some point, it's turned a bit jet engine-y in games. Have seen a couple of others complaining about low quality stock paste on the bifrost cards.

Edit: New driver up
Gaming Highlights:

Intel® Game On Driver support on Intel® Arc™ A-series Graphics GPUs and Intel® Core™ Ultra with built-in Intel® Arc™ GPUs for:

  • Indiana Jones and The Great Circle*
  • Marvel Rivals*
  • Path of Exile 2*

Doesn't list Battlemage as a supported card yet.

100% fake as are almost all the videos on that channel

Also, it's for someone else. The moment there is one game your son wants to play, that happens to have some problem with Arc (doesn't work, bugs, 30% less performance), you'd be kicking yourself for not going NVIDIA/AMD. Even if you have to play at 'medium' instead of 'high' because of VRAM.

It took many years for AMD to mostly get rid of their 'bad drivers' rep, it will take Intel the same amount of time, imo.

Still hope for a higher end Battle mage part

With those results the market would eat up a potential B7xx class card provided it scales well.

I was concerned for the new Battlemage cards given RDNA 4 is around the corner but given the rumour specs of the RX8600 has it with the same number of shaders as the 7600 and only 8Gb of vram it has a chance of getting a decent share of the market

Yep, ordered a B580 (import) to mess around with, this will go good in a secondary PC for others to use even if I don't keep it for myself, very interested if they release a higher end card more in line with the upper end options from the other 2 companies, for the right price of course.

Interesting for the B580 UE5 benchmarks. Use A770 in living room PC and it's just that little bit too annyoing for me to consider one in main PC right now.

A bit surprised by the pricing. Most Strix handhelds I've seen are over 1000$.

I thought LNL based handhelds would be over 1000$ as well.
