***The iOS 5 Thread***

It'll be getting hammered. Not surprising really. Assuming it's about 730MB and a million people are trying tonight, that's 730,000,000,000,000 bytes (730TB) to come from somewhere.

The extra filesize relates to the fact that you don't have to restore-update the phone with the non-dev download. You can just straight update the firmware.

Home sharing works absolutely fine for me and have you perhaps thought that the OTA updates don't work because... There's no OTA updates yet.

Have you perhaps thought that Software Update shouldn't error and just say that 5.0 is the latest version? Not come up with "An error occurred while checking for a software update".

Also running iOS5 GM on my 3GS and wondering whether or not I should restore to the release (even though build number is the same).

Wouldn't be surprised if the community had one ready, but obviously they won't be releasing it until people have had chance to upgrade. Letting Apple close it before then would be an awful waste.

They've said they're got at least 5 bootrom exploits waiting to be used, so you can pretty much guarantee there's going to be an untethered jailbreak coming out fairly soon :)

What, in the same way that News Stand didn't actually allow you to click through to its section on the App Store up until an hour ago? The difference being, News Stand serves a purpose as of now. The OTA software update feature doesn't, so why would they rush into putting resources into sticking up a message when they've got a lot more to worry about?

That's a fair point. I didn't know about Newsstand because I don't and probably will never use it.
