** The iOS10 thread **

I wasn't trying to catch you out. I've genuinely never heard the term bokeh before the iPhone 7 announcement and now it's all over the place.

It's been all over the place with photographers for years. Apple are making it famous due to depth of field with the new model.

Yeah it's been around photography circles for ever, although no one can agree how it's pronounced :p

Specifically refers to the quality of the out of focus areas and is often reported on in reviews of fast prime lenses.

Ray will probably be along shortly to show off some disgustingly beautiful examples :p

I always thought bokeh was just the circular blur effect due to the combination of sources of light in the background, combined with depth of field.

Not just plain old 'blurring of the background'. Then again I'm not a photographer and I've never really researched it :)

Fake depth of field remember ;)
Still cool though, shame the standard iP7 didn't get it though considering it's basically a software feature. Guess they want more people to get the +

Anyone noticed anything strange with the signal strength since iOS10? Did Apple change the way the meter is calculated?

You know i never put two and two together but yes my signal reception has also dropped significantly. At home i'd have 4-5 bars of LTE but now i get 1 occasionally and at times 3.

My wife said her iPhone isn't charging fully at night either. Normally it's 100% in the morning but it's been at ~80% until she starts using it and when she leaves for work it's 100%. Makes sense it's performing some work during low use.

When did depth of field become 'bokeh'? Or is it something different?

It's originally a japanese word, it doesn't mean Depth of Field, it means the blur created by the lens, often used to described the quality of the blur.

It means more than blur because blur could means camera shake or something gone wrong, bokeh is intentional effect from the optics. Various variables such as how many aperture blades, if they are round or not, number of elements and groups etc affect bokeh.
.
Digital Rev channel on YouTube has a sister channel call Bokeh.

Urgh, I just wanted to check if a certain bug had been fixed in Notes.... but Notes is now crashing 2 seconds after loading it...

Rebooted my iPad and no difference... Joy!

FYI if anyone else has the issue where Notes immediately crashes after loading - it seems you just need to turn Notes off under iCloud settings (so it deletes the corrupted local notes), then just turn it back on again so it resyncs). Worked for me.
