** The iOS10 thread **

The woman in the photo with the baby looks much better all in focus rather than blurring out the background

Same with the back of the child actually. Makes the subject look superimposed by crazy blurring everything else out.

You are going to disagree but I am going to say it anyway.

The world is not perfect, the places you shoot is often not perfect, it is often untidy, cluttered, messy and ugly. By having the ability to isolate a subject an throw that background (mess) out of focus gives the photographer a tool to keep the photo "tidy".

Subconsciously, at least in my experience, the VAST majority of people prefer a clean uncluttered photo over a messy one. These things are never talked about, it is something you never notice, until I point it out, by able to make a photo cleaner, either by shallow DoF, or PS, is more pleasing to the eye.

Our eyes never see everything in focus anyway, it never has and never will. Having a photo everything in focus is actually unnatural. You only focus on the subject you are looking at, the things that you are not looking at are all out of focus. Yes, that is a fact, it's science. You probably never notice it because your eye adjust focus so fast.

So having a photo entirely in focus is technically "fake", and why it doesn't look so pleasing to the vast majority of people, mainly because it is not what their eyes see.

Ray if you have time or the interest would it be worth you doing a real shot of this using one of your super duper cameras and then do it with an iPhone ?

I don't have a 7+ so I can't compare.

I can tell that the fake bokeh from the 7+ from what i've seen so far does an adequate job but they are not creamy like a nice lens and sometimes I've seen photos that has it fooled.

This photo below, at a glance it looks good right?

But if you look closely, see how the wall on the right is out of focus but look at the skirting, that is in focus.

Also the back of the coffee table is out of focus but it seems the edge of the sofa is in focus again. weirdly the edge of the coffee table in front of the Tom Ford book is out of focus, but on the same focal plan, the books on the left is perfectly in focus.

The biggest thing is the front edge of the coffee table, it goes in and out of focus like 4 times along the length of it.

With many levels of objects like this, the phone messes up but the average Joe Bloggs likely not notice any of it.

Updated to iOS 10.0.2 and they still haven't fixed the issue with entering text on forums. I have to keep zooming out to see what I have written. So annoying!

I would love to try iOS 6.0.3 on my iPhone SE. Apple should allow signing of it but with a disclaimer that its not secure, your fault if your phone breaks, you set on fire bla bla bla

Reckon it would run like grease lightning and the old icons were always better than when they moved to the flat crap in iOS 7. Everything I do on iOS 10 I could do on iOS 6 (except the finger print lock/unlock and wallet to pay for stuff)

Looking for some ideas regarding photo stream. I've moved from an iPhone 5 to iPhone 6S+, yet my photo stream hasn't transferred over yet and its been 36 hours. Checked all icloud settings and photo stream settings but nothing seems to give. Also looked at trouble shooting online and reset settings etc. but no luck.

Has anyone got any simple problems that I may have missed or simple fixes?

Not a fan of the fake bokeh at all. It just looks weird to me. I agree about the women and the baby, it looks better with the background in focus even though if I was using a proper camera I'd like the bokeh in that pic.

Remember that if you have iCloud photo sharing turned on, photostream is disabled. It's one or the other, you can't have both.
I have 'Upload to my Photo Stream' on and 'iCloud Photo Sharing'?
See above. It's one or the other, not both.

I never understood photostream anyway.
I don't see the point of photostream now, iCloud photos is much more effective.

I feel like such a fool right now, what's the difference? iCloud syncs all photos to the cloud and then onto all iOS devices, correct? So what does photostream do?

Currently I just want to get this 'photo stream' album from my iphone 5 onto my 6s+

to update, I've turned iCloud off, and i now have an album called photo stream on the 6s+, although it only contains 13 picutres, all of which are from my 6s+. Any ideas on getting the other 700 from iphone 5 across

I've now just turned my iphone 5 on, and the photostream pictures from my 6s, have copied to the 5...

EDIT: I've now just played with settings on both phones together, aaaaaaand all photo stream photo's have gone.. Brilliant. Looks like I'll just have to sync a pictures folder :p

Since no one had mentioned the performance on a 5, I was brave and did a fresh install of 10. I have to say, apart from the annoying lock screen (which you cant change on the 5), I'm impressed. Noticing a speed increase and weirdly far superior battery life. Might be due to now being no where near full up..

Are the Apple servers still being hammered? It is saying 2 hours to download iOS 10. It doesn't take 2 hours to download 1GB on the PS4. 3 - 5 minutes if I remember correctly.

I dont see the point in having iCloud photo library, my photo stream or iCloud photo sharing on. In storage > manage storage > #name of iphone# < choose data to back up just make sure Photo Library is on. Photos are then backed up

What I dont get is how my last backup size is 2.45GB and next abckup size is 44.3MB. Is that the next additional size on top?

Does anyone pay for the 50GB / 200GB options? I notice they have changed their pricing plan for cloud storange to monthly (currently 79p/month 50gb, £2.49/ 200gb, £6.99/1TB, £13.99/2TB)

Is it worth me setting my phone up as a new phone on iOS 10 on my iPhone SE. Battery life does seem a bit cack since moving from iOS 9, the problem I have is my phone backed up on iOS 10 as I was connected to Wifi, I then restored to iOS 9 but could not restore all my settings and apps from the backup as it was the incorrect version. Instead of setting up everything again I just updated to iOS 10 again and restored the backup

If I do setup as a new phone I will lose the apps but not icloud stuff like notes, contact, calendar etc.
