*** The iPad Air thread ***

Been reading some rumours that Apple are about to release a 12" MacBook Air with the retina display.

http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/mac/new-macbook-air-release-date-rumours-3420655/

Could be tempted to chop in my old 11" Dell M101Z Windows laptop for one of these when it's released. I like the existing MacBook Air but I'd want an 11" model and the resolution on it seems kind of low for 2014.

It probably wouldn't have bothered me but I think I've been spoiled by ipad/iphones/MacBook pro's to the point that 720p on an 11" display seems 'jaggy' as the pixels are visible!

I see iPad Airs and Mini Retinas on the bay for around £60 cheaper than from Apple themselves. They are from sellers with high feedback and have sold like in the hundreds with more than 10 available. I find them by filtering with UK only and Buy It Now. Do these seem legit enough as £60 odd is a pretty big saving you know!

They'll be from HK, they use the same plug as we do and the warranty is worldwide so go for it.

Jesus! I was just cleaning my iPad. Wiping over with a damp cloth. I literally put a very small amount of pressure on the bezel to remove a mark and heard a sickening noise. I have been left with this....

It still works fine, so is probably just the outer screen. Any idea on how much to fix. I would argue I should get a replacement, but I have heard Apple are notoriously picky when it comes to replacing screens.

Surely just wiping the bezel shouldn't cause this? You can tell it's not an impact as it is dead clean right along the crack. No impact spider marks at all.

Havent really read through this whole thread but what are the best types of cases to go for for an iPad Air? Just got 3 in for the office and would like to keep them in as good a condition as possible.

Is there one or two which are generally considered to be the ones to go for?

Thanks.

I've been thinking of getting an Ipad air. Really want to go digital for my comic book reading to save space storing all the print comics.

Would the Wi-Fi option be best? I'd probably just download new comics from home while connected to my home Wi-Fi. Or would I be better getting it with cellular as well, in case I need to use it outdoors?

The official smart case from Apple is good in my view, but it is expensive for what it is.

Repair centre needed

Can anyone recommend me an apple repair place for me that do ipad screens.

Apple are demanding £265 to replace my ipad with a refurbished one as they say they do not repair iPads. I think it's a joke as I don't even know how it happened.

I'm sure it can be repaired for cheaper then £200.

Shame you don't have insurance through, insure my bubble or whatever it is called. I think the excess is about £75.

So there must be companies that do repairs.

You got seriously unlucky to, I dropped mine onto my cast iron dumbbell of all things and heavily dented the corner, enough to push the corner of the screen up and my screen still didn't crack.

I just got one of these for work today, compared to my old ipad they seem really flimsy, maybe that's partly due to the weight but when you twist from corner to corner it really doesn't feel solid. The screen is much more impressive, other than that it doesn't feel too dissimilar to my ipad from over a year ago, other than the improvements in ios..

I really want the 128GB Ipad Air. But I'm torn between getting it Wi-Fi only or going for the Wi-Fi and cellular option. I'd probably get it through Vodafone if I did that, but I dunno if I even need the 3G/4G option. I can download stuff from my home Wi-Fi. But then I might want to download stuff when I'm outdoors....

Aaaaargh! I dunno what to do!

Consider where you live for a start, for example if I got cellular it would be absolutely useless for 75% of the time as the 3g signal where I live is useless.

What do you use your iPad for while your away from wifi?

If you think you'll only use it now and again, just get a mobile contract that allows tethering and you'll save yourself some cash from the iPad purchase and unnecessary iPad data contract you would need

Well to be honest I mainly want it for a comic book reader. I might use it occasionally to watch tv shows/movies and play games, but mainly for the comics.

The annoying thing is that Vodafone only have upto the 64GB one, and for a 2 year contract I'd end up paying £1047 for the device and the monthly bills, for a 4GB allowance per month.

I already have my iphone for checking stuff online, so I don't really need it for internet browsing. Hmmm...

I think overall the Wi-Fi only option is better for me. More expensive to start, but cheaper in the long term. Plus I can get some good Tesco clubcard points if I order through them :D

EDIT: Annnnd purchased! Got a £20 off voucher to use on Tesco, so got the 128GB Ipad for £619.

Been out of the Apple game for a while but looking to get back into it.

But, Craig, why couldn't you just get the WiFi and use your iPhone as a hotspot?

I saw, but I didn't know if there was a reason why the cellular version was even considered if this was a possibility.
