So there is a bigger CPU and more RAM, the logo on the back will glow...
Yet somehow they are able to get extra life from the battery, not too sure I believe that, not heared of any great leaps in batteries lately?

At a guess, the battery will be bumped from 1050mah to 1500mah, which would explain the 1.5x claim as a misinterpretation of battery capacity vs battery life. Highly doubt that they will manage to reduce total power consumption given those spear.

The power consumption looks believable to me...the current Iphone's display uses a lot of power.

Just to update.. my last post seemed a tad rude...

I say the following will not happen:

  • Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
  • OLED screen
  • Background apps
  • Apple logo on back will glow
  • Rubber-tread backing
  • Sleeker design

OLED would be nice, but there just hasn't been enough of a reliable mention on the internetz to warrant it.

I sounds like a wish-list, mixed in with the stuff that we already knew.

cant wait to see the new ones, really fancy one now i never bothered with having an ipod touch i kept my xda orbit instead but i really want one now!!

Rang T-mobile today to cancel due to getting an iPhone and the guy must have asked three times why I wanted one, why I didn't want a G1 etc. Then he gave up and tried telling me he had an iPhone but it was rubbish and he sent it back. Twit.

T-mobile are getting a letter :) (Not about that - well I might mention it - but they're being fools with our contract:()

Daring Fireball, who is often on the money says...

http://daringfireball.net/2009/05/the_next_iphone

"The original EDGE iPhone and iPhone 3G use the same 400 MHz processor. Let’s say the rumors are right — and I believe they are — that the next-generation iPhone’s CPU will be running at 600 MHz. In the same way that, say, a 90 MHz Pentium was more than 1.5 times as fast as a 60 MHz 486, the 600 MHz CPU in the next iPhone will be more than 1.5 times as fast as the current 400 MHz iPhone CPU.

Much of what the iPhone does now is constrained by its CPU. App launching speed, for one thing — faster app launching should make it feel more like switching between apps and less like quitting/relaunching them. Web page rendering is also significantly constrained by the CPU. When I first used NetShare I was amazed at how fast Safari on my MacBook Pro could render web pages using the iPhone’s cell network connection. Web page rendering on current iPhones is hindered at least as much, if not more, by the CPU than by the speed of the 3G network.

More RAM will significantly help performance, too, and I believe the new iPhones will sport 256 MB of memory, up from the 128 MB in all current models. Prices will stay the same — $199 and $299 — but storage will increase to 16 and 32 GB. The improved performance will be one of the major new features that Apple will tout, but the only tech specs Apple will publish will be the storage capacities — just as with previous iPhones and iPod Touches Apple won’t publish any specific technical information regarding RAM or the CPU. (The CPU in particular, I believe, is something Apple regards as secret sauce.)

Industrial design changes will be subtle, perhaps very subtle. I expect that cases designed for the iPhone 3G will continue to fit the new iPhone, and that the only colors will remain black and white.

Two other significant internal additions frequently mentioned in rumors are indeed accurate: a magnetometer (a.k.a. a compass) and an improved camera that will shoot video (and improved still images, thanks to an auto-focus lens; the existing iPhone camera lens is fixed-focus). Video, in fact, will be one of the major features Apple plans to tout regarding the new model."

More positive rumours :)
1. T-Mobile Austria briefly advertised ta 32Gb iPhone
2. Vodafone have marked the 16Gb to 'End of Life'

Makes you wonder why they haven't marked the 8Gb as well? Ah well, was after the 32Gb anyway :p Assuming the keep the prices the same...!

According to AreaMobile.de, T-Mobile Austria briefly began advertising the "iPhone 32GB" on their website but was quickly corrected.

Meanwhile, MacTalk.com.au reports that according to their sources, Vodafone has sent out an email to retail staff indicating that the 16GB iPhone has been marked "end of life" by their supplier.

With WWDC just weeks away, these could represent legitimate leaks pointing to an imminent iPhone refresh.

Shame about the assumed lack of background apps - that would be awesome. Looks like i won't be upgrading.

Apple emphasised the fact that didn't want a 'task manager' type arrangement for the iphone so I guess they'll stick to their guns on that one.

I'm still reading all these rumours with a big dose of 'meh' and will wait to see what's announced before I get excited about anything.

Ya, I agree, I cant see the point in dissecting rumours and so called 'leaks'. Its best to wait and see.

(btw Feek, Skitch is awesome)
