*** The iPhone 3G S Thread - All iPhone 3G S Related Stuff In Here ***

The people coming from normal mobile handsets will be the most shocked at the iPhone battery life.

Don't forget nearly every battery life (on a smartphone) is ****-poor, this is no different.

Yup, they got used to their tiny 1.5 inch screen which it can last all week. The thing is i used the iphone more than a phone.

sent 200mb/received 2.2gb

Didn't think I used the phone that much! That must be over the phones life though, 10months, so 220mb/month down! So you must have to use a good few hundred meg a month to get a letter about using too much

I believe a previous poster said he's used a few GBs over a weekend :o:eek:

iPhone Recommended accesories?

Hi Guys,

Just after some advice regards my new iPhone 3Gs and the accessories I need (and if they exist). Ive added below items Ive already chosen and why in case it helps other people...

So far Ive ordered:

Case - Switcheasy CapsuleNeo (looking for something permanent and robust and happy to leave it on if its not adding too much to the form factor - I prefer this over the Rebel cases as looks more professional).

Screen Protector - Power Support Anti-Glare (not interested in covering the back as thats already sorted so decided to get this looking at recommendations on net - can only find it on Apple Store in the UK though. Probably not the most scratch resistant but I really want good clarity, especially in sunlight. The alternative was Martin Fields but heard bad things about QA - also a bonus is that I can get the Apple guys to apply it for me in store :D)

Dock - Apple plug/charge cable (decided that I didnt need a dock and cba with the hassle to get the Universal one just because Ive got a case. Though £21 for a plug and charge cable seems a lot :p. What does the dock do that a plug + cable cant?

Car - Looking to get the Tomtom app and cradle (I presume that will have a charging facility?) as Ive had Tomtom on previous WM phones and found it useful...

Headset Adaptor - need one to allow my existing decent headphones to becoming handsfree. Want it to have the same functionality as the new headset that comes with the iPhone 3Gs.

So whats a good headset adaptor and do I need a car charger?

TIA

At the end of the day, I charge my iPhone everynight and dad charges his Blackberry everynight.

Though I've just managed to get two days of battery life out of the 3GS :D

The dock is essential a pretty way of plugging in the cable+charger.

TomTom cradle will charge the phone.

You need a headset (or even just an adaptor) that is "Made for iPod" certified, or the inline controls won't work. Monster do one (found via quick Google).. have a gander at other manufacturers.

Manufacturer: Monster Cable
Part Number: 123875-00

Cheers for that - though I definitely need an adapter as I want to use any headphones. I think I saw one made by Griffin somewhere too with the inline controls

Despite not really liking my Touch HD now one thing I can say is the battery life is very good. I only have to charge it every 2-3 days and that is with a fair amount of use as I use it for work.

I have some auctions finishing in a few days, then I have a painful wait while the money transfers to my account then I am picking up a 16Gb 3GS. I can't bloody wait!

I've got a Switcheasy Neo. It seems pretty good so far. :)

I picked a Zagg invisishield and it's brilliant, never used a screen protector like it. :)

I picked up the universal dock, as the switcheasy case comes with an adaptor for it. I find it much easier to just sit down at my desk and dock my phone, than to fiddle around with the cable, personal preference there though. :)

I hope they pay you with an eCheque (via PayPal).

Takes 14 days to clear.. 14 horrendous, long days ;)

With the universal dock, I assume there is no need to remove the iphone from the switcheasy case because of the adaptor you get with the case? Is that correct?

3 hrs 42 mins of usage and 31hrs on standby since last full charge, 39% battery. Keeping in mind that 90% of that usage has been 3G web access I think this charge is lasting a lot better than previous ones.

hey guys!

I have had an n95 since it was released many years ago. I never really use it for anything bar taking a few pictures and sending texts/mms so I already a quite large low battery life phone so thats not really an issue. I am on a £20pm simplicity tarrif at the mo so to get the same stuff I would be on a £35pm and paying £87 for the phone.

So basically I have been caught up in all the hype and am wondering if they really are that good? Is it worth the extra money do you think? Or will I play on it for a week and then just use it the same as the n95?

Will it be 2 years before they release the next iphone or will I be spending like maybe a year with the 'old one' :p

Mine with location services, 3G and WiFi got down to 50% last night after a days use.

I need to completely drain it to calibrate it properly tho.

And for people complaining about battery life, dock it every night. :)

The universal dock can be a right pain in the arse. For some reason the iphone does not detect it as being iphone compliant and pops up a message asking if you want to switch to airplane mode when you plug it in. Very annoying and not really what you would expect from a company that likes to think it's products "just work". The adapters are also very overpriced, £6 for 3 i think. Still love my iphone though :)

I thought leaving it fully charged and plugged in was bad for the batteries so that is a bad idea?

Lithium-ion batteries prefer a frequent charge over a complete drain-n-charge.

There is a circuit which prevents over-charging anyway, so providing you aren't leaving it for a few days it'll be alright :)

Ive always put my phone the side charging before i get into bed, then wake up, and put my phone in my pocket.

Altho at work i am constantly on my iPhone, so have to take my charger to work, as after an hour biking to work (With the ipod on) then about 3 hours in work playing around with FB/emails/text/IM/Games etc. i have to plug it in

Edit: Ignore, forgot this was the 3Gs thread, i have the 3G
