*** The iPhone 3G S Thread - All iPhone 3G S Related Stuff In Here ***

lol - i've tried resetting settings, hard resetting the phone, different APN settings, cleaning my sim card... nothing works! :o

Does the iphone not auto switch to 2g when it can't get a 3g signal? If I disable 3g manually then it gets almost full 2g signal - surely it should do this itself tho rather than sit with "no service"??

My 3G would seem to prefer a really weak 3G signal than a strong 2G signal. (And would also prefer to connect to a WiFi that had no active internet connection rather than using 3G).
Also I remember (July / August '08) lots of us were having problems with it dropping calls when switching from 3G to 2G.

Cheers.

Will plugging it into iTunes mess up anything as (as of friday) iTunes has been seeing my 3GS instead?

Oooh, just found a "Erase All Content and Settings" under Settings>General>Reset. Is that the same as a iTunes restore I guess but without plugging it into iTunes?

I did that with my 2G.

It does erase everything and puts it back to an un-activated state.

I use that method when selling an iPhone.

It takes 2 hours but it's easy enough to leave it plugged in to the wall while it does it's thing because it means you just box it up when it's done :)

If I took out all the insurance that was offered as part of things I bought I bet it would cost about £1000 a year.

e.g. Phones, Fridge, TV, DVD, Washing Machine, SKY+HD, Iphone etc.

So I take the line that it's probably cheaper to replace the ones that go wrong myself than pay all that money to the insurance companies. Obviously Car/House insurance is a must, but the rest.....

Now watch me say that and Sods law hit tonight as the Washing machine explodes spraying water all over the TV, DVD and Sky+ Box, then I fall down the stairs land on the fridge and drop the iPhone at the same time. :D

Yeah I agree but generally speaking you're much more likely to lose/damage a phone than have your Sky box explode for no reason etc

Just make sure you get someone to video it and at the very least you can get £250 back from You've Been Framed.

Sounds like just the ticket then! :)

Guess it's "Erase All Content and Settings" first and remove the SIM once it's finished (been using the PayGo SIM that came with the 3GS in the 3G).

You can do it before, makes no difference.

I've always erased and then removed the SIM, although if you're selling the PAYG SIM then it makes no difference really

(I wrote a much more detailed response and then knocked the Back button on my mouse, losing it all. Gnnngh)

So many questions!

1) Battery - takes a couple of weeks to reach full capacity. Keep it between 40-80% for the longest possible life.

2) Screenshot - press Home and Lock together

3) Restore/Wipe - be careful, a full wipe doesn't wipe it fully..

4) Use Media Monkey for drag/drop music copying

:D

Hmm, still havinga few 3g issues here, 2g works absolutely fine, and wifi is spot on, but as soon as I get a 3g connection I cannot do anything, firstly it tells me I have no subscription? (Am on a normal contract w/ data bolt on) and everytime I try to do anything internet related, it just says "No connection to network"

It is infuriating, especially as 2g is fine, but 3g is just refusing to connect :( Have chanced the setting for the connection to mobile.o2.co.uk and I'm at a loss for what else to try! :(

If I do that, will it still have 3.0 on it afterwards or will I need to plug it back in again and run an update?

Hey guys...

Have only just got my 3Gs today, my contract happened to finish with o2 this week, so decided to just upgrade to the phone. Im not quite sure how im gonna make do without my unlimited text messages, as 500 isnt really enough.

My main question is this. I understand browsing the web when out and about on 3g is free, but is it capped at all. I guess, lets say, I was on the train everyday, and on the way to work which takes an hour, I was to stream iplayer without a wifi connection, could I do this every single day, and not get charged...or would they put a limit on it?

thanks

i can literally see my battery percentage draining every time i use it. Took it off a full charge this morning, sent maybe 10 texts and made two 5 mins calls. Just surfed the net for two mins and used the face book app for 2 mins.

Battery currently at 79% usage stats of 1hr 30mins and standby of 13hrs 40. Surely that can't be right? Over 20% gone in under 24 hrs. Oh I correct this, it's down to 78 in the time its taken me to write this post!

Granted I have only charged it from empty twice but methinks I have a duff model based on Apples statistics for battery life.

i have just set up my iphone receive my emails from my gmail account but im having a problem - its showing up the OLDEST emails rather than the newest.... anyone know how to fix this?
