does anyone know if i buy a 3g iphone contract now will i get an upgrade for free when the new iPhone comes out? thanks.
No you certainly won't. The 3G iphones are subsidised by your contract (unlike the 1st iphone which you paid for outright), O2 will be loosing a lot of money if they gave free upgrades to someone who only got their 3g iphone a few weeks ago. Rumour has it that unless you're in your upgrade period, you won't be entitled to it at all (unless of course you pay off your contract).
Like i said, the 1st iphone wasn't subsidised at all so O2 were able to give the 3G iphone upgrades to anyone, as long as you signed up to another 18 months.

Didn't realise that! I thought paying £170 odd or what ever it was for the 16gb G3 would have bought it out-right!
Going to be a bit annoyed if I have to wait till I'm in my upgrade period before I can get the new one...

Given the lacklustre update I'm actually considering selling the iPhone and getting an HTC Magic to replace it.
