*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Not sure if I should get the V2 on launch day, or wait until I come back from holidays :(

Wouldn't want it to be sold-out when I got home, oh, and the only decent 02 shop (in fact THE ONLY 02 shop) in Swansea has closed down.

I'll be damned if CPW think I'm going there on launch night.. not with their poor staff and pointless paper exercises

I think i'll get a PAYG one, but i wonder how unlockable they are?

My GF doesn't want me taking out another contract.

Errm.

Can I sell my iPhone now, and still be able to 'upgrade' as an existing launch day customer?

I wanna part ways now, while the irons hot! (AKA More Money!).

Well i originally planned on getting a new 16GB and ditching my touch. As i like to carry arround 10-12GB of music arround so the 16GB seems the logical choice. I was planning on getting it on PAYG as i currently have a t-mobile flext contract im currently locked into for another 6months but concidering the estimated 450-500 i might look at getting the o2 contract with with the long contract length ill have to run the numbers and look at overall costs compared to what i have now and PAYG.

(oh the PAYG options assumes its unlockable easily so i can use my t-mobile sim then move onto a sim only tarrif once that finishes)

So looks like i wont be getting one on launch either. Ill have to wait for the best option for me is avalable.

I just rang O2 as I am due for upgrade and want to change to the 3G iPhone. Apparently 'computer says no' and I have to ring back on the 11th to order it.

I'm surprised they don't allow orders before the release date? Anyone had experience with trying to 'pre-order' one as it it were.

Thanks

Simon

Yep, my mum + sister are upgrading to iPhone, you have to ring up or go into a o2 store on the 11th.

that FAQ was really good to read, but i'm gutted that you can't use the GPS while driving :(

btw: is the 16gb the same physical size as the 8gb?

How come? I can't find the FAQ.

I was hoping to use GPS when driving (Passenger holding it of course)

Apple are not allowing turn by turn access to the GPS for some weird and wonderful Apple reason.

SDK Agreement said:
"Applications may not be designed or marketed for real time route guidance; automatic or autonomous control of vehicles, aircraft, or other mechanical devices; dispatch or fleet management; or emergency or life-saving purposes."

Never having had an Iphone previously I'd like to ask the following question. Will it be possible using a piece of software called anapod explorer to transfer mp3's and photo's direct from my hard drive to my iphone 3g? I find it easier to use than itunes.
TIA,
Pete

TomTom have by all accounts already ported it to the iPhone.

There's some belief that Apple may have included that clause so as not to be held responsible when someone tried to make one and they couldn't get it to work... or something. Sounds a bit tenuous though.

i would imagine there would be 3rd party apps for the GPS and for the missing MMS functionality very very soon, possibly within days of the 2.0 firmware being released.

also TomTom are devloping something too.

Plus there is nothing to stop Apple releasing a patch further down the line to handle all of this.
Cut and Paste is still a big miss for me but I'm sure I can live without it.
