*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Been reading his thread and a whole ton of stuff about the blackberry storm. my contract is up and for ages I always thought I would get a better capable phone. I check e-mail so was going to go BB, but really it will be only over web exchange server through a browser so iphone does the trick. I always thought the iphone looked a little bit naff with the large coloured icons and its quite longish, but after having a play in o2 store its seems quite good - i presume it can be customised a little given the right, erm software etc.
I presume the iphone is a good voice phone as well, the lack of wifi on the storm i reckon is my own dealbreaker as if I travel I aways use the hotel free wifi when they have it

Anyone one here used both BB and iphone?

If ActiveSync's setup on the Exchange Server (it usually is by default), then the iPhone will do full push email and you can use the built in mail.app.

It's not quite that simple... but yes- the iphone is fully capable of push w/exchange.

How is it not that simple? Can't think of anything other than that when I last set it up. Unless I already had something working that most wouldn't that I can't think of...

I have both, a BlackBerry 8310 for work and my own iPhone. The BB is superb for emails but that's it, it really isn't in the same league as the iPhone. I should be swapping it for a Storm in the next few weeks (perks of being in charge of our mobile contract at work) but I don't expect it to come close to the iPhone. The internet browser on the BB is absolute pants in comparison.

I have an iPhone 3G as my personal phone and BlackBerry Bold for my work phone, so use both day to day.

For email, the BB is unrivalled - both the push email (we don't use Exchange at work) and the interface etc. is much better.

For pretty much everything else, the iPhone wins. The Blackberry browser is terrible compared to Safari and the touch interface.

If I could only have one phone, I'd have the iPhone.

Guys, when playing music does it come out both of the "speakers" at the bottom? Mine just comes out of the left?

Only one of them is actually a speaker :p

Mine comes out of both. Didn't know it could do that, just thought the speakers were for calls, didn't know the iPod allowed music to be played through them.

However, I prefer it with the headphones. Headphone quality is quite crap, played a song and put bass on, right headphone started to vibrate.

EDIT: Only one is a speaker ?

thanks for all the comments re: iphone and bb, im really swaying to iphone now as the only plus for bb is the e-mail which doesn't really matter in my case, and also the threads i have read about lack of mms, cut&paste, can't change battery etc which all seem a little minor etc.
I presume one can buy a nice case that still retains some slimness to the iphone - my friend had one on which felt really nice plastic with a matt backing

Many cases have already been discussed in this thread I have a Contour case bought from the o2 store, nice gloss back to protect it more like a jacket TBH, and doesnt 'bulk' the iphone up - on the iphone in general, buy one you wont regret it, ive tried all the rivals for the past year since the 2g came out and have since upgraded to the 3g, yet to try the android/htc/google phone!.

Just got the iphone 3g i got a pay as go 16gb version i then got my normal 18 month contract upgrade to the iphone one with out haveing to renew so cost £400 but no contract renewal

Thinking of getting an iphone on PAYG pretty soon but got a couple questions about transferring my old number (02 payg aswell).

I searched this thread and someone said they had experienced some trouble and were being charged for the wii fi and 3g. By transferring my old number do I still get all the perks and stuff rite that is included in the new sim? And simply have my old number on the iphone.

Sorry if its a stupid question lol

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but can someone help me out.

I have an O2 contract at the moment, but wish to buy a 16gb iPhone 3G and use my existing sim card. I understand the 3G iPhones cannot be unlocked currently, so would my sim card not work?

Also, when buying it, would I have to buy the PAYG version or could I buy a contract one and just put my sim in it?

Thanks

You could buy either an o2 contract or PAYG on o2 your sim will still work as far as i remember from other posts. As long as your on o2 at present i dont see a problem, you will although need the sim supplied at time of purcahase in order to register the phone through itunes initially.

So basically, you bought a PAYG iPhone for £400, but then upgraded your contract (so therefor another 18 months?) and your now using that sim in your iPhone?

Sounds like you've been had if thats the case!!
