*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

I'm only going off rumors of AT&Ts.

I personally couldn't care less how the conduct the order process. I am a sheep to their contract anyway so It wont affect me in the slightest.

course your right the contract purchasing plan has been around for more than a decade now. Why indeed not use it. Of course this doesn't help unlockers and jailbreakers.

Vodafone italy are going to be doing it unsubsidised for €499/€569 which is £395/£451 for the 8/16GB A little higher than I'd like but still tempting.

Good spot.

Not a bad price, still tempting I agree. Will have to wait for UK prices though.

About the level I would've expected. A 16Gb version ain't gonna be cheap then!

€569 which is £451.

On the whole MMS debate, I definitely find the lack of that an issue as I do send quite a few - especially as Im on Flext it only costs double a text and allows you type pretty much what you could in two texts as well as attached whatever media...

One very useful aspect of MMS is that when you are abroad they still cost the same (20p) while texts go upto 40p  (thats T-Mobile though - unsure what the other providers do). Lets just not talk about internet access while on international roaming :/.

So if you were away on holiday with an iphone and no PC access - expect keeping in touch via SMS/email to be significantly expensive...

Theres a definite role for MMS and I doubt email can surplant that without adding things like personal push email at a reasonable cost...

ps3ud0

Exactly how i feel, the lack of MMS is a big issue for me and because of that im staying away from the iphone. There really isnt any excuse for a phone to not have that feature...ffs even phones that are cheaper and arent as snazzy as the iphone have that feature. Anyways as ive said before, its not like its going to affect Apple that much...all the iphone whores will still buy them by the bucketload:p.
Personally Apple had a brilliant opportunity to really push the envelope...they havent in my eyes other than adding a 3G chip...they havent brought anything new to the table. Even the GPS isnt really a proper GPS is it now??..from what i have been reading.

On another note, this made me LOL

Couldnt find it earlyier?
Luckily, a news site i visit had them on. :p.

Err.. you go to the o2 homepage, click on the honking great big iPhone advert in the middle of the page, then click pay monthly tariffs.

Damn these big companies and their complicated websites ;)

Well there we have the UK prices then, £499 and £569  as is the typical ******* exchange rate for rip off britain

I *really* can't see that happening!

Its not more affordable... £269-299/£369-399 for 8/16Gb respectively...

Its not worth that amount as a phone, iPod touch + Phone can be had around £269, ok it hasn't got GPS but that, on my list is something that is a bonus.. not a requirement :/

I really can, Apple has very tight control over their products, i can't see it being sold at £150 cheaper in this country. There is no such a thing as rip off Italy :p

the word on the street is the prepay 8GB will be £350.

http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/O2_takes_box_breaking_precautions_on_3G_iPhone.html

and to be perfectly honest we (the people who bought the v1 and never connected it) have ourselves to thank :)

Actually thats not quite true, the problem is in search of unlocking/jailbreaking we have inadvertantly opened the iphone up to massive box breaking issues which I'm sure they are going to stamp on quite hard this time.

That said.. £350 for a prepay iphone... is that so bad? the standard N95 is £379

if i was now to register my sim card (from the v1) and start a £45 contract (thinking of going back to contract anyway) whats stopping me then going into O2 picking up my free V2 and then selling that on ebay whilst keeping my original V1.

pocket myself £400??

Probably nothing. But I bet you'd rather sell the V1!

If you do that I'll have it off you. lol. (As long as its the white 16Gb :p)
