*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

my GPS is crap.

Told me I was in cornwall the other day. Often tells me I am a few miles from where I actually am.

i have just been in to a newcastle O2 store and was told to come back on thursday when they should have stock.

We are moving our business mobiles over to o2 / iphone.

Is everyone as happy as they thought they would be with their purchases?

I'm over the moon with mine. Hope some better apps come along as there isn't much that I'd use.

Also, I'm having to charge it regularly, but then I am hammering the 3g and wireless at every turn and point.

However, compared to my previous phones it's a joy to use and the interface is just so intuitive.

Really love mine too, best user interface on any phone i've had or seen.

Apps arn't too bad, could play with google maps for hours, would like them to add a few features but looking around the net what i want isn't going to happen.

Roll on Flash player however, then i can get CatFace on my mobile Phone :p

Does anyone know if stock is left in Regent Street? - I have tried to get a hold of them on the phone but I can never get through due to the telephone queues, which seem to be horrendous both yesterday and today.

hahah having said that i just got through to them and they say theu have 16gb in stock, although the queues are a wee bit long...

I cant believe how Apple consistently make quality products and package them with the worlds nastiest earphones.

they actually make my ears hurt,

not expecting them to be up to the quality of the Shures that I normally use, but seriously they could make at least a bit more effort.

they actually make my ears hurt,

Same here.

But the output quality of the unit itself is actually much better than I was expecting, better than my w950i certainly.

I'm going to try and get some Etymotic HF2 earphones. Unfortunately there are loads of reviews out there, but nowhere in the UK to buy them. Well, not that I've found online anyway.

I popped into the Regent Street store at lunchtime.

They had a que, which only had about twenty or so people in it, but I was told the wait would be a few hours! The guy at the back of the que told me he had been waiting 45 minutes, and only moved one space foward!

I think i'm gonna bite the bullet and update to Firmware 2.0 and hopefully by the time this mess has passed there will be a hack for 2.0.

bout time there was a hack for the v2 software :p

Don't say that to Zibri.

His blog is currently carrying a message telling everyone to **** off and leave him alone - it will be done when it's done, if it's done at all and since he's doing it for free you should all jsut be happy about that.

Which is fair enough.

One thing I noticed which may have been answered before, if you are in a completely signaless area, how are you meant to use the GPS? I was in an area with poor 3G signal and the GPS locked on and was all good with a nice blue dot telling me where I was, but a white background due to not being able to download the maps from google. Are Apple going to release some sort of offline map pack or is someone like TomTom doing an application for the iPhone?

Pretty sure the GPS wont work without some sort of connection as it is assisted GPS so requires at least some form of data connection.
